A Set of Sunday Musings - Shorty Encounters and Shorty Flicks

Musing #1:

For anyone closely following both Jake Gyllenhaal and Austin Nichols, it would be hard to miss what happened this past weekend. Jake was at the Toronto Film Festival 2017, first appearing to the public on Thursday, Sept 7 in New York City at the Calvin Klein Fashion Show and 29 something or other, which hilariously and interestingly enough was also attended by his man's ex-beard, Chloe Bennet.

This was too coincidental:

Do you reckon along with the purse clutch, there was a renewal contract on a clipboard along with a fine point Sharpie carried on Bennet's person, just in case?  Did she perhaps seek out Jake, desperately desiring a contract renewal with his hubs?  A haunting spin of Aretha Franklin's "Rescue Me" in its own solo playlist seems to come immediately to my mind. ;-)

Musing #2:  Meanwhile, back at the ranch, Austin was allegedly filming a new shorty flick entitled "Isabel".  Does any other fandom oldster see the irony in this title, for one?  Let's reminisce back to 2010 for a moment because this is too funny.

Jake Gyllenhaal Confused by Isabel Lucas Rumors:
Starpulse.  By Fred Topel.  April 10, 2010

Comic book conventions are not usually the place for celebrity gossip. Stars go to show previews of their superhero movies to fans and bask in their star struck adulation.  Jake Gyllenhaal went to WonderCon in San Francisco to promote this summer's video game movie, Prince of Persia.  When a journalist in a press conference asked him how things were going with Isabel, Gyllenhaal didn't know what he was talking about.

“Who?” Gyllenhaal asked the journalist who’d asked him about Lucas.

The reporter then asked if he was in fact dating Isabel. The actors had been spotted together and rumored to be dating. Either those reports are false, or Gyllenhaal is taking the fifth. “It’s news to me, my friend,” Gyllenhaal said. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

To deflect the personal question, Gyllenhaal’s colleagues joked that he would like to meet this mysterious Isabel. Then the actor played along.

“Yeah, yeah, that would be nice,” Gyllenhaal said.

That Austin would write a shorty film entitled "Isabel" is indeed worthy of a second glance.  But not to get too distracted.  250 GB worth of Instagram Stories and tweets later [that will not be given the light of day here at Narnia], the entire bout of smoke and mirrors can be nicely summarized in this tweet timeline:

Note the Start and Wrap times for the filming of "Isabel":

Start Date:  Thursday, September 7, 2017
Shooting Schedule:  6 days
Wrap Date:  Tuesday, September 12, 2017

Jake popped out of his prairie dog hole [post-paper dog Leo and speed dial beard Greta Caruso photo ops in late August]  when?

New York Fashion Week - Thursday, Sept 7
Toronto Film Festival - Friday, Sept 8 through at least today, Sept. 10

The two men's time periods of activity look like a matching pair of socks to me, not sure about anyone else.  That's a closet analogy for:  perfect counter coverage performed to prove Austin was thousands of miles away from Jake, who was clearly in Canada.

As Easy as 1-2-3, That's How Elementary It Can Be - Jake Gyllenhaal at TIFF 2017

Stronger was the film; its Canadian festival without bridal train carrying and fussing, Thinker poses, ghost boat rides, and TMI provocative quotes from directors.

Stronger at the Toronto Film Festival 2017 will be a festival which behavioral-wise was at the head of the class.  Tip of the cap to Jake. Perhaps it was the subject matter, the cast?  Whichever it was, Narnia salutes Jake and wishes him much luck with the upcoming release of Stronger.

A few pictures of Jake, Jeff Bauman, Ta tiana Maslany, and others from their big Saturday.

Looking snappy in the layered sweater.

Hmm, trying to recreate that unforgettable Bangers shot?  Well, not quite, but a reasonable facsimile thereof.  :-)

"No no no no no no!"  *wink*

LOL!  Sorry - couldn't resist that one.  Okay, I'll shut up now.

Because I always admire anyone who can step up to a podium and speak to a crowd...

Maslany from the film...She reminds me a lot of Sandra Bullock, does she anyone else?

From the after-party:

And the best for last. You can see the bottles in the cast after-party pic, but in this one, they're almost front and center. Probably a sponsor of the party, but who cares.  The Grey Goose shoutout!  And a classic, very nice shot on top of it.

And there you have it.  A few favorite snapshots from yesterday, Jake and a film festival.  Devoid of fuschia or sandy grit filters and "artistic" black and white.  We CAN have nice things sometimes!!

Well done!  Next on the schedule today will be the interviews....and THAT will be a different story, no doubt.

Just a post-script teaser to end this post on.  I found this short interview snippet interesting because Jake never did really answer the simple question. [But many thanks to @jbbgyllenhaal for posting the clip and always keeping on top of things.  A wonderful source when she's able to provide to fans.]

Late addition:  another interview where Jake seems incapable of answering a personal question.  Jeff Bauman is here playing along with the whole "workaholic" narrative.

Perhaps an example of hiding truly personal thoughts, hmm?   Let the press junket and talk show circuit begin, HUZZAH!!
