When Old School is Anything But Outdated

Hollywood has a thing about cookie cutter copying, kind of like suburbia home builders.  You know...

And once someone discovers gold in a new mine, here come all the other rushers eager to cash in on the same spot.  One old television series remake becomes a hit, then before you know it, networks are combing through TVLand, MeTV and Turner Classic movie channel, looking for ideas on more re-makes.  After all, if one is good, then twenty must be even better.  Same goes for the fashion-setters, right?  But what may work for some, may or may not always work for others.

The key is to remain true to yourself, be comfortable, enjoy the change if this is where you wish to delve.  Hopefully we will still continue to see these classic looks from Mr. Jake:

Probably my favorite suit that I've seen on Jake was this brown number,

open collar, dress shirt and a jacket is dressy and yet breathable,

There's nothing like the classic cut of a dress shirt,

Even on crutches,

A simple henley for those important family appointments,

Bold cranberry and velvet on top of it,

And the fuzzy, the soft, the cashmere - that's classic Jake.  Sensual softness against the skin is comforting.  And we want Jake to feel comfortable.  Seriously.

The oatmeal,

The chestnut,

The grandpa sweaters,

The classic, solid turtleneck,

Even though this jacket was from a scene in Love and Other Drugs, why does it look like vintage Jake?

There's not much that topped this classic black button-down and shades from the U.S. Open in 2009,

Navy suit, an unguarded look

Simple brown (is this fleece???) long sleeved T, unpretentious and comfy,

Soft layers,

One last look at the suits, Jake with an emerald green tie and a nice picture with Jeff Bauman,

I don't think anyone has shinier dress shoes than Jake.

From the Details 2015 photoshoot,

And from November 2018,

Jake at some of his past best.  Classic never goes out of style.  Like Errol Flynn,

and Montgomery Clift,

Billy Dee Williams,

and Peter Lawford,

Never out of style.  Unique because it's you and who you've always been.

I forgot a couple of more recent pics that I want to include, but will do so in the morning. Because it’s my Friday!! ;-)

I loved the rust colored coat Jake wore earlier in the week, I think it was but the turquoise sweater with the rust, I just don’t know about that, lol.

Wasn’t Peter Lawford something?

And I loved Peter Lawford's voice, I don't know what it was about it, but he was lovely to listen to.

I LOVE that song Mirror Man by Human League. I had forgotten all about that one, but a twitter mutual of mine tweeted awhile back about Human League and it reminded me of their music. Great to bring that one back.

Errol Flynn is one of my favorites. I haven't seen all of his movies, but my favorites are Robin Hood, Captain Blood, The Seahawk, Santa Fe Trail. They Died With Their Boots On was so beautiful but it ended so tragically, I can't take watching it again. He and Olivia de Havilland were so wonderful together.

But he is classic, old fashioned movie star. And that's how Jake has always struck me. Just looking at some of his childhood pictures, his parents look like they were old school and always dressing him up in little suits and dress shirts. That's very old fashioned, 50's kind of Hollywoood style.

Jake looks great in bold solid colors, but I saw that all-green suit and it just doesn't look like him. It kind of seemed like someone was trying to make him dress like Harry Styles and another actor who is trying to be like Harry, who is Timothee Chalamet. Chalamet needs to develop his own style. I guess copying is a high form of flattery, right? But it does have to be able to be pulled off. And Chalamet doesn't pull off Harry's look.

I'm just speechless right now looking at the pictures being tweeted from Malibu. Like a fire department tweeted, this is historic what is going on right now. Some people have gone to the beach with their animals, some folks have run out of gas in their vehicles and couldn't get out, and now daylight will be gone.

We extend our thoughts to all of those in harm's way and thinking of all the animals. I know that the LA Zoo was evacuating animals earlier in the day - but where are you going to take them and how are you going to get them all out?

And of course, the first people I thought of this morning when the first evacuation tweets started coming were Jake and Austin because I have a feeling they may be somewhere in southern Cali. Jake had property somewhere in this area and with Austin wearing his Malibu cap recently......I believe they still have a home, possibly in the Malibu area.

Hoping they're all together and safe, and that hopefully somehow their property will be all right. Everyone says Malibu is such a beautiful area and indeed, some of the coastal shots I've seen in the past have been.

Jake's looking mighty fine in this wonderful eye-candy calvacade. Great job, PG. And Montgomery Clift (be still my heart) was one looker and fine, fine actor. Emotional depth coupled with a mesmerizing vulnerability. Brilliantly challenging the traditional models of masculinity. Then, of course, he spent a lot of time in Europe growing up. Could speak German and French. If you haven't caught Red River with him and John Wayne, check it out. I don't think people realize how comfortable he actually was in his own skin. The tongue in cheek gay humor in that film is just hilarious.

I love that one pic of Jake from the US Open in September 2009. Wooohooo! Talk about casual chic. Bringin' all the boys to the yard. LOL!
