30 Days and 16 Years: A Pin Up History of Jake Gyllenhaal and Austin Nichols - Day 30

We close our 30 day celebration of Jake and Austin pics with another one of the many, many coincidences that may not provide the best of photos, but once the puzzle pieces are interlocked and circumstantial evidence is examined, point to a corroboration of the two being together at a certain moment in time.

Case in point, Maggie Gyllenhaal and Peter Sarsgaard's wedding on May 2, 2009 in a small chapel in Brindisi, Italy.

From the New Yorker:

Peter Sarsgaard and Maggie Gyllenhaal got married this weekend at a hotel in Italy and because of what we can only assume is a systemic, across-the-board tabloid failure, no gossip magazines were there to document the occasion. OK! was not present to take pictures, and no helicopters hovered above the hotel in Italy where Brooklyn’s reigning Bobo celebrities exchanged vows. Thus, we’ve taken it upon ourselves to reimagine what the ceremony must have been like.

Pictured Members of the Wedding Party in the Convent's Garden: Stephen Gyllenhaal, Jake Gyllenhaal (wearing a Fedora), Mystery Man in a similar Fedora and Peter Sarsgaard. Unseen: Supposedly 40 close friends, with another family friend officiating the ceremony.

Far left: Stephen Gyllenhaal and Jake / Far right: Mystery man in hat and Peter Sarsgaard

Far left: Austin Nichols wearing a Fedora at November 2009 movie premiere of Pippa Lee.  Far right: Mystery Man with dark Fedora standing next to Peter Sarsgaard

That hat looks familiar, doesn't it? To the left you see Austin at the Private Lives of Pippa Lee premiere later that year in NY. To the right, that similar shaped chapeau could very well point to Austin being there too, standing next to the groom, Peter Sarsgaard in the courtyard with Jake and his father. The odd height differences no doubt associated with varying ground levels behind the concrete wall. For example, Jake looks far shorter than Stephen Gyllenhaal, in that photo, which is not the case in real life.

How fascinating that Maggie and Peter made sure to have a very quiet, private wedding and yet, the tabloids followed with stories of how even though there were no other celebrities invited to the wedding, or cameras, Reese Witherspoon was there, which means lots and lots of stunt pics followed!!! Supposedly, there were also multiple PDA's between Jake and Reese that weekend. Oh, and Jake's mother was there looking on while they made out. Must be real, if perennial buttinsky, Mommy Dearest is third wheeling it. Of course, no pic of Reese at the wedding ever did surface, although stories like this began to pop up everywhere:

While the focus was on the newlyweds, Reese and Jake managed to find time for their own romance, which included lots of sweet PDAs while spending the afternoon with his mom. We couldn't resist bringing you a peek at their getaway surrounding Maggie and Peter's big day.  ~ Pop Sugar

One of Narnia's favorite pics from the tabloid gallery, was entitled..."Lovebirds"

LOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!  Although this "candid" moment was a classic sneak peek into these two's "romantic" weekend, the pic below absolutely screams, LOVED UP COUPLE too.

What needs to be remembered is that this was supposed to be Peter and Maggie's special weekend. Yet, somehow the whole affair became all about Jake and his beard.  Almost like some major "Look over here, not over there" razzle dazzle was taking place. Just enough distraction for a certain Fedora-wearing Mystery Man to skedaddle without anyone (except, Oh My Godot) noticing. Moreover, if the other guests were unknowns and family friends, there would be no need for deception and artifice.

For the record, the "inseparable" lovebirds, Reese and Jake "broke up" six months after this "we can't get enough of each other" pap shoot, while Austin and Jake are still together nine years later. Guess those matching hats don't lie.

And so that wraps up our - what's that??? Huh?

Whatcha got there?  A bit of extra credit, you say?  Well, by all means!  Come on down!

Jake and Austin put the rubber to the asphalt on one more occasion back in 2007.  Here they are, sporting essential spandex gear to capture all those "curves" in the road. *wink*

Looking good, fellas!!

And so now we can wrap up this burrito of 30 days and 16 years of Jake and Austin; involving five different states and three different countries.  We saw the men partake in biking, running, driving, working out, shopping, working, schmoozing, public transit'ing, walking, dining, java'ing, partying, dating, playing, and Laker-ing.

And think about it;  that's just what the cameras were privy to.  ;-)  Thank you all for joining us!  And thank you to Jake and Austin, without whom we would have missed out on so much fun.

30 Days and 16 Years: A Pin Up History of Jake Gyllenhaal and Austin Nichols - Day 29

January 23, 2011

Under his old twitter account, AUS10NICHOLS, the big guy tweeted:

The Arctic Sunrise is in Wilmington, NC. So awesome. This boat could tell some stories.    http://twitpic.com/3srvol
about 2 hours ago via Twitpic

The Arctic Sunrise, you say? According to Wikipedia, the ice-strengthened vessel is owned and operated by Greenpeace and was purchased in 1995.  She has been on numerous campaigns and protests, all across the world.  Given his love of the environment, it is not surprising that Austin enjoyed seeing the ship that day.

Along with Austin's tweet, came an uploaded picture.

Anyone, anything catch your eye in this picture? [Besides that beautiful rainbow!]  I'll give you a minute to study the photo more closely.

Any particular subject catch your eye?

And is there anyone, I mean anything that person might be looking at in particular which could be deemed interesting? Like maybe a little boy that appears to be around three-years old?  The same age that Jake and Austin's No. 1 son would have been in January 2010; the one kneeling on the ground talking to the little girl? The same child that guy on the left (who looks suspiciously like Jake Gyllenhaal), is focusing his attention on?

The week during which the ship docked in Wilmington NC occurred during the time period when Austin had returned to prepare for filming a new season of One Tree Hill.  Simultaneously, the context was that Jake was involved in a high-profile stunt, er - meet-up in Nashville, TN with ex-beard, Taylor Swift. [Insert Google Map image at this time.]

Once the tweet was posted by Austin on Sunday afternoon (January 23rd), an instant observation was posted by Oh My Godot's very own Florida Tom (formerly Jersey Tom),

Jersey Tom said...

Nice Boat. Love the rainbow. That guy on the left looks like Jake. LOL.

Apologies to Gordon Lightfoot, but let's just say that the Edmund Fitzgerald wasn't the only vessel to hit rough seas as a bit of havoc was let loose;  one and 1/2 days of heavy trolling immediately ensued on Oh My Godot. Apparently, somebody's management team was not too happy with Jersey Tom's observation.

This boat could tell some stories.

Oh, indeed, I'm sure it could, Austin.

30 Days and 16 Years: A Pin Up History of Jake Gyllenhaal and Austin Nichols - Day 28

"It was during casting of TDAT, Austin walked in and the rest was history. They [Jake & Austin] couldn't take
their eyes off each other. "
~ Comment from the Original Waiting for Toothy Blogspot

As if Jake and Austin weren't seeing enough of each other on set and in that movie trailer they were sharing during the six-month filming schedule of The Day After Tomorrow, they decided to do an IFC short film with co-star Emmy Rossum. Ah, ain't young love grand. Maybe they thought having Austin cozy up with Emmy would give him some straight cred too. Remember PR had already used Emmy to market straight Jake for the movie. Replacing Jake's real life falling hard for Austin Nichols at the TDAT auditions, with an over the top, constantly repeated "re-creation" of Emmy's "audition" with Jake. The ol' full-out snogging tale accompanied with the following quote for good measure from Emmy:

"It had to be. There was no choice for me. It was gonna be there. It also wasn't difficult. He's terribly attractive. So it wasn't like the hardest thing I've ever had to do in my whole life but, at the same time, I think the heat had to be there. Somebody had to melt the ice! (laughter)."

Of course, everyone who promoted this story, forgot to mention that Emmy was only 15-years old when she auditioned for TDAT in July 2002 (her birthday is September 12, 1986). Way to go, Hollywood. You would rather promote 21-year old Jake, the pedophile, than Jake the healthy young man who fell head over heels in love with a 22-year old Austin Nichols. What's even more predictable is that Roland Emmerich, the openly gay director of The Day After Tomorrow, was the original source of the Emmy-Jake rumor. Which would later be picked up and be part of the often repeated audition mythology for the film:

According to Roland Emmerich, Emmy Rossum gave Jake Gyllenhaal a deep French kiss during their first read together.

Emmerich, by the way, is also the one who specifically asked for a still relatively unknown, 21-year old Jake Gyllenhaal for the role of Sam, and who kept expanding Austin's role to give him more screen time with Jake. So much for Jake's management team's insistence that those pesky "rumors" about him being gay all stemmed from his having the "bravery" to do Brokeback Mountain. With a doubt, many people knew then just as they know now.

More proof that insiders were aware of Jake's true preferences was also flagrantly on display at the NY premiere of The Day After Tomorrow on May 24, 2004. Not only did Jake arrive with his high profile beard in tow (Kirsten Dunst), but Austin needed to be paired up too (hand holding always a nice touch, just in case people missed the message being sent), even though mainstream audiences had no clue who Claire Oswalt was. She was female and that was enough. Six weeks later, Kirsten announced that she and Jake had broken up and Austin was seen with his beard only one more time in September before he also admitted that he and Claire had parted ways. Great timing, fellas!

Oh, and the added restriction at the premiere that was quite telling was that even though Jake and Austin were inseparable on the TDAT set, and as we learned with the Club Lotus party a little over a month after they met, becoming inseparable in their personal lives as well, they were not allowed to take one photo at the TDAT premiere. Not even a cast group shot. Not one. Not allowed to be seen together even though they were in the same movie. Hmm. I wonder why that would be? Seeing as they became such close friends during the filming.

Interview with Austin Nichols for YM magazine

Hardest part to film: His scenes with Jake. "He was always making faces at me, trying to crack me up," says Austin. "It usually worked too. I was trying to be all serious and I'd see him sticking his tongue out and I'd lose it."

Fave on-set pastime: Cooking with Jake. They usually make Mexican food, but Austin's most proud of their make-it-up-as-you-go-along chicken dish. "We put three full chickens in a huge pan with shallots, garlic, onions, radishes, and seasoning." Sounds tasty.

In fact, this lone photo shows just how physically close the two men got that day for the cameras. Austin's eyes squarely on Jake. Just as it should be. Just as it is today.
