Narnia "Pleats" the Fifth and Refuses to Engage in This Fashion Bait

A recent Instagram comment on the Kansas City Chiefs official page caught Narnia's attention, not because neither M&M or I saw it on Instagram, but because a fan provided a screenshot of the comment via Twitter.

The reply by Chiefs practice squad player Gehrig Dieter, who we introduced in the recent post, Sunday Musings:  The Swiss Cheese and Happy Clouds of OTP-Land Pt. 1,  was published not on a post made by the person he was poking fun at, Two-time All-Pro and 5-time Pro Bowler tight end Travis Kelce.  Which is where one would think the reply comment would be posted?

No, no...it was posted on the Chiefs football club's official Instagram page, in other words, for maximum exposure to 1.7 million followers.  And so just what was Dieter referring to, anyway?

The reply comment was in a post which consisted of a photo deck, including pictures of a few other players, but it's Travis' picture which is on top of the stack.  Now, everyone familiar with Travis knows that he is a fashionista.  In fact, Travis has been making style statements and expressing himself since entering the league.  And last summer, he traveled to Paris, France for their fashion week because he was taking steps to begin learning more about the industry and to see if it was a direction he may want to take post-NFL.  In this clip, Travis talks about his trip to Paris, while he was in the city.

Travis says he didn't get interested in fashion until he attended college and from there, he began noticing clothes and browsing in stores, although could not afford yet many of the styles which appealed to him.

So, he's kind of a self-made fashionista!  And now look at him, traveling to Paris and attending the Thom Browne and Casablanca fashion shows to do some research and test the waters.  Gifted with a 6'5" frame and listed online at 260 lbs., Travis has the frame and stature to explore a variety of styles and to paraphrase singer Rod Stewart?  He's worn it well.  Very well.  Here are a few of Travis' public appearance, game day and travel ensembles.

This sweater is to die for.

And who could ever forget the stunning chartreuse shade of this suit which was worn on the way to Super Bowl LIV,

Aaaaah yes.  Point made by now, yes?   Because there are plenty more to draw from in that well.

Travis is a man at total ease.  He is comfortable in his own skin and he capitalizes the "E" in the word extrovert.  All eyes are drawn to him, no doubt, when he enters a room.  He's loud.  He's lively.  Loves music, loves to dance, loves sports, enjoys food. And his confidence oozes in the way he stands, legs oftentimes in that A-stance of his.  When you watch videos of him with interviewers or fans, he looks like he's the one who knows how to put the other person at ease.  He's relaxed.  So you're not going to get the best of him.

And again, Travis is known for being a fashionista.  But here comes Gehrig Dieter, Mr. Try-Hard to make the regular roster, and on the Chiefs official Instagram page, thinks he's going to hold Travis up to the class for laughs because he's wearing pleated pants.  And referring to them as outdated.

Which goes to show what #12 knows.

In an article from May 2019, GQ said to watch out because pleated pants were being brought back from the brink of extinction.

"But now they're back, far closer to their original Bogart-era sophistication than the aforementioned biology-class fustiness.  Pleats are still an unexpected move, the kind of calculated, in-the-know risk that kicks your whole style up a notch." - GQ May 1, 2019

And who is one celebrity who has quite often rocked the pleated pants on stage but one Mr. Harry Styles, himself widely known as a fashionista.

This coral suit with the short jacket is sweet,

Even Niall Horan has gotten into the act:

Let's throw in a couple more, like Ryan Reynolds,

"Captain America" Chris Evans,

Heh, not too sure about the colors of those pants though, Chris. 😉

David Beckham,

You get the drift.

And while Dieter's ridiculing comment encouraged a few other fans to join in, Travis let it be known that the words were actually rather an insult, because he wasn't giving up his pants, as seen below in his reply:

And that's how he took care of that.

Perhaps #12 might want to spend less time worrying about Travis' style and more thinking power on how he's going to crack that regular roster.

Travis doesn't need Narnia's input, obviously.  As someone told me, he seems quite capable of taking care of himself.  😊 No, but Narnia is here to keep track of something which caught our eye and gave us cause to wonder Why? out loud.   This is one of those "for the record" kind of posts.  After all, Narnia has become an archive.

And so now you know that pleated pants are back on the scene and if you wish to hit up your local consignment shop to dig a pair out; try them on, by all means, go for it.  Apparently, Travis Kelce is already a few steps ahead of many of us.

Sunday Musings: The Swiss Cheese and Happy Clouds from OTP-Land Pt. 2

Oh no, no, not around here. 😁 Show you the good stuff?  I'll show you some good stuff.  This is a Swiss cheese-free page!

•  Huge congratulations to Jake Gyllenhaal on his Tony Award nomination.

-Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Play for Sea Wall/A Life

In addition to this honor, Sea Wall/A Life was nominated for three (3) other Tony Awards:  Best Play,  Another Best Actor for Tom Sturridge, and Best Sound Design.  This is an impressive addition to Jake's list of accomplishments and Narnia wishes him our best in garnering a win.  Even if he doesn't though, it's a tremendous honor.  Of course, Narnia enjoyed writing up what we thought A Life was really about in our February 10, 2019, post entitled Sunday Evening Musings:  Is it Morf or More Like Morph? and we still stand strongly behind this belief.

The Tony's are to be rescheduled at a later date, due to COVID-19.

• And because this has been a Baby Tile Birthday Week, we've had pictures and other content on either/or Jake and Austin so we are happy for that!  Did you know that Austin signed with a new agency?   We didn't either!  Just found this out.  Would've been nice had A3 Artist Agency's twitter account mentioned their own client signing!

We also have a few new pictures of Austin;

And on Oct 14, here was an attempt to place Austin in Texas.  Here he is allegedly with a gentleman with TX-based Whataburger.

And a couple of days before the Whataburger appearance, Austin was letting us know he was in Michigan.  Looks like Austy is going for the bare-minimum haircut and definitely looking like a daddy-o! ✂✂✂

Wherever he is, you know that today?  He was with his family, helping to celebrate his oldest son's birthday, the legendary Baby Tile, number 1 son.

🍁🍁🍁🍁

And guess who's holding his THIRD live-stream concert?  Mr. Liam Payne, that's who.  *press applause sound effect button*  Yes, and it's going to be on Halloween, October 31.  What a perfect day to do it and tickets were flying as soon as he announced it during an Instagram Live Stream on October 9, where he spent time talking to his fans.  Here's a clip when Louis Tomlinson commented on the live stream:

Liam's going to have several special guests, including Harry Potter film actor Tom Felton and pop singer Carly Gibert.  He has since released a very entertaining video to promote his LP3 show.  Here's Liam in his gladiator costume, trying to get out of his car.

This author has her ticket already and cannot wait for his new show!

• And who else is helping out his touring crew with a virtual show?  Mr. Niall Horan will be performing at London's Royal Albert Hall on November 7, live streamed in four different time zones.  It's wonderful that both Liam and Niall are performing to help out those who have worked their shows, but have lost income due to COVID-19 causing concerts to be cancelled in 2020.

I'm trying to get a ticket, Niall, but the links aren't working for me, for some reason.  I don't know, might not get to see it.  😕  Will try again, though.

🍂🍂🍂🍂🍂

And what does Kevin McHale + cinnamon rolls + mentioning Austin P McKenzie's "buns" add up to?

Where was I when folks were registering for an online cinnamon roll baking contest with Austin P McKenzie instructing?!  😭  Looks like class went pretty darn well.  Apologies if you were expecting a different kind of picture.  This page is rated G today.

And Narnia loves that Zayn Malik cares enough about another country's well-being, that he tweets, encouraging the citizens to use their voice in their future direction.

Short.  To the point.  Concise and with precision.  And although his tweet was minimal (although effective!), Narnia will use the opportunity to slip in a nice Zayn gif.

And while we're on the subject of Zayn, let's take a look at his SO's eye catching tweet/Instagram which was promoting his upcoming show on October 31.  I don't think Seinfeld's Cosmo Kramer would be a big fan because he was so scared of clowns, but we find it pretty slick.

As Louis would say, "Siiiiiiiick!"   lol.

🍂🍂🍂🍂🍂

How ingrained are these two to each other and so familiar with everything about one another?  They have mirrored each other and just a simple answer to a question about the ending of Supernatural brings out how frequently in-tune their thoughts and reactions are.  It's like a rhythm.  A synchronization.  An alignment.

at 2:52, they both reacted with the same answer.

As I've said before, these two guys are so in rhythm, so part of each other, you can't tell where one stops and the other begins.

🍁🍁🍁🍁🍁

And finally, a smack on the hand to this author for not getting the post up at least on Baby Tile's birthday.  But let's enjoy this salute anyway to, get ready for this one...

Baby Tile turned thirteen, that's 13, years old yesterday, October 17.  His birthday came and went, the world is still spinning on its axis.  The sun came up in some parts of this world and in my humble city, the clouds came out to cover the sky.  There was not any earth shattering photo op or stunt that happened.  No Just Jared post.  Thanks to the ongoing COVID pandemic, events such as this one can escape the need for distracting theatrics. And no one knows any better, imagine that!  Imagine that.

And so we salute these two guys, who can show their kids that they went on hot dates together looking nearly like whiskered kittens,

evolving into hot, young dads,

but now that one of their kiddos has crossed that no-going-back threshold known as teenager-dom, us Jaustin followers should prepare ourselves for some furrowed brows, tense jawlines and impulsive moves to pull out their wallets.  LOL!!

M&M and I have WAITED for this day.  The day that Jake and Austin became the parents of a teenager.  And we couldn't be more thrilled for them.  Because why?  Because they will see themselves re-incarnated and they'll hear some of their old youthful words thrown back at them as well as tell their kids some of the phrases that they used to hear from their parents.  Aaaaah yes.

What an age-blended family they have right now, yes?  They have an official teenager.  They have tweens.  And they still have some pretty young ones.

Happy Birthday, Baby Tile - belated greetings.  Go easy on your fathers.

This was before you were even born and your dads were over the moon.

Have a great day and week, everyone!

Sunday Musings: The Swiss Cheese and Happy Clouds from OTP-Land Pt. 1

2020 is the kind of year when you never know what's around the corner.

lol, the spin on that dog...and isn't that just like a cat?  I sometimes watch a cat who bats his sister just like that.

But enough about cats and their batting ways!  As we were saying, 2020 has been a year already and right now, we don't ever know what's coming around the corner.  Here are a few of Narnia's recent eyebrow raisers though, in no particular order.

• Before we get down to the down and dirty, real quickly, first - let's start off with a chuckle raiser.  Nothing has made me smile this year like the Chiefs' tight end Travis Kelce saying "rollercoaster tycoon".

And thanks to Travis and Google, I now know that Rollercoaster Tycoon is a video game. 😉

🍂🍂🍂🍂🍂🍂🍂🍂

And now for the Swiss Cheese Nods of the past couple of weeks.  In other words, these stories and narratives from PR teams are shot full of holes.

• Narnia's first slice of Swiss cheese for the snack tray -

Which one of these Chiefs players is not on the current starting squad, wasn't on the starting squad for the 2019 playoffs or Superbowl, yet once again made the practice squad (fourth season in a row) for the 2020 season?  Here he was joining Chiefs starters as they all wished the Super Bowl MVP Patrick Mahomes  birthday greetings?  We'll give you one guess.

Dieter was signed by the Chiefs in 2017 as an undrafted free agent.  Since that time, he has signed, been released, resigned, waived, etc. ever since. From Pro Football Reference, this is the breakdown of the roster changes:

Interesting, isn't it?  In 3 1/2 NFL seasons, Gehrig Dieter has appeared in six (6) games, all six confined to two seasons (2018, 2019), and has one regular season pass reception of 22 yards and one playoff reception of 11 yards, in addition to special teams play.

But he has an abundance of social media "air time", as noted above in the Happy Birthday video to the point where one assumes he must be on the regular starting roster instead of the practice squad:

The following extensive baby announcement was made on October 5, after he had been cut by the Chiefs and nine days before being signed to the practice squad, yet again.

Tweets which acted like he was on the Super Bowl squad, when he wasn't - he was on the practice squad.

At the Super Bowl (even though there are a certain number of practice squad players who accompany the team in case of injury), hanging with the first squad-ers.

This Chiefs Training Camp 2020 video even though again, he did not make the regular roster:

This is but a wee bit of sampling, but you get the drift.  Get used to his name around these Narnia parts because he seems to be destined to be around for an extended time.

Our second slice of Swiss Cheese

By the end of September, it would appear members of the Gyllynicholsgaard Squad are possibly already moving into position in preparation for October 17, Baby Tile #1 Son's birthday.

Austin appeared out of nowhere, allegedly motorbiking through the Ozarks (from Texas) and we're supposed to notice how he's recklessly passing on a double line.  You don't reckon he could possibly be a father by driving so recklessly and laissez-faire, do you?  And so who was in the truck filming???

And then by the next day, Austin was in Michigan along with the bro-in-law and nieces and nephew (with no sister Ashley in sight).

Our third slice of Swiss cheese:

From the other side of the Gyllynicholsgaard family, here was Maggie bike riding with ex-husband Peter while she's supposedly filming The Lost Daughter in Greece.  Rather interesting, isn't it, to be riding a bike while wearing a long, billowy gauze dress?  Maybe this was a deleted scene from Il Postino??

Earlier, here was Twitter telling us on September 28 that Maggie was going to be tied up filming her directorial debut for 28 days,

"The shoot is expected to last 28 days."

28 days?

But...October 17?!!  What about...what about Baby Tile's ascension into teenage-hood on October 17???  Why, that means Aunt Maggie would miss this most momentous milestone birthday! Why, I...I...

Ohhhh....

Shhhhh, we get it now!  😉

Our fourth slice of Swiss cheese

Goes to the trio of marketer Jacquelyn Dahl and her star client Patrick Mahomes for staging an engagement AND a baby announcement (not in that order), with "high school sweetheart" Brittany Matthews. Both of these stories coming during a global pandemic as well as the NFL football season.  Dahl knows how to stage a splashy headline on the heels of spotlight events.  Take the engagement, for example.  When did this usually personal and private life event take place?  The same night that the Chiefs team received their Super Bowl rings at Arrowhead Stadium, an event that was live streamed on You Tube by the Chiefs.  And so what was a team event became a personal event for the star QB1.  Here below was one of the stadium suites "decked out" for the moment.

Complete with a video of the special moment and photos provided by and credited to a professional photographer.

As you can see at the bottom, giving a business plug while they were at it:

This People.com, TMZ and social media feedbag was followed  by a Thursday Night game with the Baltimore Ravens on Sept. 28, a competition that was touted and lauded as a Mahomes vs. 2019 NFL MVP Lamar Jackson duel for the ages.  Both teams were undefeated.  Well, Lamar Jackson came up short under the pressure and Patrick had an excellent game; he had never looked sharper.  Number 15's performance was topped off on the field with another Patrick digital countdown captured by the cameras, this one meant as a smack on the hand to the rest of the league's players for ranking him 4th on the NFL Top 100 Players poll.

Yes, we agree, Patrick.  It was indeed a quite questionable ranking.  But what wasn't needed was Brittany Matthews returning to her tasteless social media ways, ones which are a poor reflection on an organization which seems to pride itself on professionalism.  We apologize to our readers for the NSFW and offensive gesture, but one has to wonder why this kind of behavior is not reined in by anyone, particularly Patrick, who's supposed to be "the face of the NFL".

Aah well, what do we know about public relations and marketing?  Amazingly, the very next day, after the big win and that "pristine" flip-off move, the following announcement was made,

LOL! From flipping the bird to the NFL masses to Glamour Shot.  So after a couple of seasons of this,

and more helpings of such,

to lace and baby blue.  See how that's done?

after allegedly spending seven years together and becoming betrothed, a "detour" is made?  During a pandemic?  But it's because of a pandemic, that some Hollywood "couples" have decided it's the perfect time to suddenly become pregnant or spring "Guess what, I had a baby!" news on their fans.  For some, like actress Michelle Williams, it means they don't need to be seen and don't have to worry about a Beyonce baby bump fail.

An announcement can be made and the parties don't need to be saddled with pap walks.  Of course, baby bump pictures are still a must, however, so Instagram is the way they are distributed.  With Instagram, the pictures are under the publicist/celebrity's control. The lighting is perfect, perhaps black and white is used to help hide manpulation, and much decreased chance of a visual slip up.

Perhaps Narnia's fave Travis can provide more heads-up tips in the future, like he did back in August when he seemed to be providing a winky-wink to the future.  Listen to him at 00:04, when he addresses Patrick.

"How're the wife and kids?"

Ha!  Not exactly low key, was it?  That was too easy! Next time, maybe not so obvious.  Besides, it doesn't look like Patrick was quite seeing the funny in that joke. 😉

• One more slice off of the brick of Swiss Cheese goes to double-winner, Maggie Gyllenhaal, for her and WME's use of brother Jake to help draw attention to her movie, The Lost Daughter, which was or has been filming in Greece.  How did she do that, you might wonder?  When a meme theme keeps running through Jake's social media search of how much he looks like an actor named Oliver Jackson-Cohen.

This particular tweet even shoehorned a Narnia subject (from 2018, mind you!) from years past, Calgon "Caglar" Ertugrul, into the tweet. This is a good time to mention that our 2018 post about Calgon (and how Jake's people used this "doppelganger" theme to flood Jake's twitter search with a fake meme) as you can see now, somebody went through and deleted alot of Calgon's Instagram content that we had used for evidence.  LOL!! Talk about Swiss cheese.  They riddled that post with deleted pictures.  But that's okay.  It was a tough lesson to learn and this author knows better now.

and one more for good luck (although this isn't even a tip of the iceburg of how many tweets there are like this),

In all languages, with all sorts of "photographic evidence" of the incredible "likeness", all the while repeating Cohen's name over and over and who is in Maggie's movie, The Lost Daughter?   Oh, that's right, Oliver Jackson-Cohen.  Big Sis once again using her brother for clicks and future paying viewers.

🍁🍁🍁🍁🍁🍁

And finally, since it's no secret that I have commented on Spn Goss since 2014, where I was first drawn to do so after the "shoulder injury" stunt at JibCon and driven to share my own thoughts, unpopular as they were.  It's always been a hate-hate relationship, lol.  But when one can't even admit when a picture is clearly photo-shopped, one should question what's going on.  It started with my comment regarding the news of Genevieve Padalecki joining Jared's new show Walker and playing his late wife, which led to the accusation by one of the posters who said my belief that Jensen and Jared were the ones really raising the children, was "far from reality".

And if the belief is that "far from reality", then why does their team need to photo shop the ladies into "family photos"? Seems like a reasonable question, right?  This photo right here which was discussed in our post, Step Up to the JibCon Bar - Denials for Everyone! from May 2019,

Which, if you look at it on a cell phone or Ipad, you are probably going to miss that it is indeed photoshopped.  Let's take yet another look at Danneel's two hands where the conjoining of two different people's hands/fingers is taking place.

And I'm clearly told by a photoshop "artist" that I couldn't have been more wrong that the photo above was a composite:

" 'no, dude. Just no."   Oh?

LOL!  But then, it got even better when a long-time nemesis also told me how bad my eyes were, I guess.

"They were posing for a happy family bearding picture, of course the beard is going to be in it."

lol.  Oh, she was "in it" alright.  Like a Colorform®.

Well, this post could go on into the night, but it's been going on long enough.  After all, we've got even better and certainly more gentle "stuff" in Part 2.  On to the gentler sharing, yes, let's do that.
