Narnia "Pleats" the Fifth and Refuses to Engage in This Fashion Bait

A recent Instagram comment on the Kansas City Chiefs official page caught Narnia's attention, not because neither M&M or I saw it on Instagram, but because a fan provided a screenshot of the comment via Twitter.

The reply by Chiefs practice squad player Gehrig Dieter, who we introduced in the recent post, Sunday Musings:  The Swiss Cheese and Happy Clouds of OTP-Land Pt. 1,  was published not on a post made by the person he was poking fun at, Two-time All-Pro and 5-time Pro Bowler tight end Travis Kelce.  Which is where one would think the reply comment would be posted?

No, no...it was posted on the Chiefs football club's official Instagram page, in other words, for maximum exposure to 1.7 million followers.  And so just what was Dieter referring to, anyway?

The reply comment was in a post which consisted of a photo deck, including pictures of a few other players, but it's Travis' picture which is on top of the stack.  Now, everyone familiar with Travis knows that he is a fashionista.  In fact, Travis has been making style statements and expressing himself since entering the league.  And last summer, he traveled to Paris, France for their fashion week because he was taking steps to begin learning more about the industry and to see if it was a direction he may want to take post-NFL.  In this clip, Travis talks about his trip to Paris, while he was in the city.

Travis says he didn't get interested in fashion until he attended college and from there, he began noticing clothes and browsing in stores, although could not afford yet many of the styles which appealed to him.

So, he's kind of a self-made fashionista!  And now look at him, traveling to Paris and attending the Thom Browne and Casablanca fashion shows to do some research and test the waters.  Gifted with a 6'5" frame and listed online at 260 lbs., Travis has the frame and stature to explore a variety of styles and to paraphrase singer Rod Stewart?  He's worn it well.  Very well.  Here are a few of Travis' public appearance, game day and travel ensembles.

This sweater is to die for.

And who could ever forget the stunning chartreuse shade of this suit which was worn on the way to Super Bowl LIV,

Aaaaah yes.  Point made by now, yes?   Because there are plenty more to draw from in that well.

Travis is a man at total ease.  He is comfortable in his own skin and he capitalizes the "E" in the word extrovert.  All eyes are drawn to him, no doubt, when he enters a room.  He's loud.  He's lively.  Loves music, loves to dance, loves sports, enjoys food. And his confidence oozes in the way he stands, legs oftentimes in that A-stance of his.  When you watch videos of him with interviewers or fans, he looks like he's the one who knows how to put the other person at ease.  He's relaxed.  So you're not going to get the best of him.

And again, Travis is known for being a fashionista.  But here comes Gehrig Dieter, Mr. Try-Hard to make the regular roster, and on the Chiefs official Instagram page, thinks he's going to hold Travis up to the class for laughs because he's wearing pleated pants.  And referring to them as outdated.

Which goes to show what #12 knows.

In an article from May 2019, GQ said to watch out because pleated pants were being brought back from the brink of extinction.

"But now they're back, far closer to their original Bogart-era sophistication than the aforementioned biology-class fustiness.  Pleats are still an unexpected move, the kind of calculated, in-the-know risk that kicks your whole style up a notch." - GQ May 1, 2019

And who is one celebrity who has quite often rocked the pleated pants on stage but one Mr. Harry Styles, himself widely known as a fashionista.

This coral suit with the short jacket is sweet,

Even Niall Horan has gotten into the act:

Let's throw in a couple more, like Ryan Reynolds,

"Captain America" Chris Evans,

Heh, not too sure about the colors of those pants though, Chris. 😉

David Beckham,

You get the drift.

And while Dieter's ridiculing comment encouraged a few other fans to join in, Travis let it be known that the words were actually rather an insult, because he wasn't giving up his pants, as seen below in his reply:

And that's how he took care of that.

Perhaps #12 might want to spend less time worrying about Travis' style and more thinking power on how he's going to crack that regular roster.

Travis doesn't need Narnia's input, obviously.  As someone told me, he seems quite capable of taking care of himself.  😊 No, but Narnia is here to keep track of something which caught our eye and gave us cause to wonder Why? out loud.   This is one of those "for the record" kind of posts.  After all, Narnia has become an archive.

And so now you know that pleated pants are back on the scene and if you wish to hit up your local consignment shop to dig a pair out; try them on, by all means, go for it.  Apparently, Travis Kelce is already a few steps ahead of many of us.

Well, as I lie here awake and have been for a couple of hours, stewing over the election, I thought I should say that hope everyone is doing okay.

My sincere apologies for the quietness on Narnia. The intent is not to be, but sometimes life happens.

My mom had a mild heart attack two Sundays ago and then there was a critical complication. She is doing better, day by day. Us siblings are taking turns helping to get her back on her feet and I’m thankful that she is at home and not a rehab facility. I’ve seen enough of the hospital to be able to fully understand the daily risk the workers face every day. Mom had the best care and so hopefully we can get this ship turned around and on a forward course.

Fortunately there are plenty of posts for our newcomers to comb through and hopefully we can get a new one up soon.

Thanks for checking in and reading. Talk to you soon.

Uh oh, looks like I also need to adjust my avatar, in addition to the music!

How can you believe Ziam is real but then believe Liam is the father of that kid?

Aaaaaargh!!!

Sorry, I had to vent that somewhere. Like, really loudly.
