Jake and Austin's Month of May - Timeline continued.
See below excerpts from 2004 interviews where people try to explain why Jake didn’t get cast for The Dreamers. The problem is Jake was cast for The Dreamers and it was announced on April 22, but suddenly something changed between that date and June 19th. My conclusion: Austin Nichols entered Jake’s life like a bolt of lightning.

Q: Can you talk about casting and how that came about? Why, for instance, Michael Pitt in this picture instead of Jake Gyllenhaal?
BB: I thought he was good as the provincial, innocent, naïve boy. I got to him after I had been in this country, Los Angeles and New York, to do the casting sessions. [I saw] him and two or three other kids. I liked him. But then, in London, before I decided to do anything, I met Jake Gyllenhaal. I liked him very much. I saw him on stage and then it was clear that Jake would have been so tortured about showing his body. It became clear almost immediately after a few days. I know that he was one of those very meticulous actors who wants to know everything and wants explanation. Every time there was a scene that was sexy, I would see myself trying to explain [to him.] It was impossible. I don’t blame him because I would have reacted in the same way. I cannot be naked in front of a camera. So then, I thought about this kid in New York with big lips. I saw Michael Pitt in “Bully,” which was really good.
Jake "so tortured about showing his body." Hmm. That was kind of an interesting take, wasn't it? 😉 But the more important point is The Dreamers was to film in Paris. Was Jake so smitten with Austin that the idea of leaving for Paris was deemed to be out of the question? Aah, young love.
Jake and his novio Austin would not let the general public know they were "socializing official" until November 2005 when they accompanied one another to the premiere of Heath Ledger's film Casanova. Where? At an Arclight Theater, a group of theaters frequented by both men and a particular favorite of Austin's. Lucky for them!

Clearly, this narrowed time in May has special meaning to Jake and Austin. In an excellent post by the Grand Poobah, Special K, on her blog Oh My Godot entitled When They Met...Ten Years Later, the comment thread discusses an extremely rare tweet sighting of Jake and Austin together at an In-N-Out burger joint in Los Angeles, late at night the previous day, Saturday, May 11, 2012. The encounter was told by the girlfriend of the one involved in the run-in. Her twitter handle was "Allybunny" and she tweeted about it only hours after the sighting, in the wee hours of the morning.
As an interesting aside, a couple of items could be noted about this account and that is 1) although the twitter account is still online, there have been a couple subtle name changes. She is now Ally Mays, @allybunny and 2) her account has been wiped clean. Not only wiped clean, but her twitter creation date is now July 2012. At the time of her tweets above, they were published in May 2012.
It's interesting for an account to delete all of their tweets, yet leave the account up with an empty slate. There's not one tweet listed. And to show a re-creation several months later? Just some unavoidable observations. 😉 It's nice to look back and reminisce about a rare Jake and Austin sighting, which occurred in May.
And so now we'll circle back around to these new pictures of Jake and Cadieu, allegedly together in New York City last week while Austin is...we have no idea where Austin is. 😁
Jake's social media team may wish to work a little harder on the "hand holding", perhaps consult with Liam Payne's team. Oh wait. That may not be a good idea after all as they don't quite seem to have the hang of that demonstration of light PDA either.

And then a few more "new" photos were released the next day, supposedly of the twosome going "solo", but with Cadieu reportedly walking behind Jake, although she is not visible yet with what has been provided up to this point.
Even the Daily Fail seemed to provide conflicting accounts of were they or weren't they together on the streets of New York:
"And Jake Gyllenhaal, 40, and his French girlfriend Jeanne Cadieu, 25, kept a low profile as they were spotted out separately in Manhattan." - Daily Fail, May 08, 2021

His publicity/social media team throws another ineffective piece of kindling on the Coleman fire, by having a few intern accounts speculate about a ring on Cadieu's finger.
So the purpose of the meal leftovers in aluminum foil was to draw attention to the beard's fingers, an increasingly familiar tactic seen on Just Jared which is to use Instagram or other social media to plant "speculation" about a ring.

There was not a similar Just Jared post for Jake and Cadieu, only leftovers in aluminum foil and mild Instagram "ring" speculation. Perhaps another NYC stroll may need to be taken to fuel stronger word buzz, but in the meantime it would seem that May 7 was the day to bring us some Jake paparazzi content.
Again, according to the timeline,
• 5/06/2002 20th Century Fox picked up The Day After Tomorrow after an aggressive bidding war that included offers from five studios (HR 5/6). An immediate preproduction start is promised. Preproduction means that the script is finished and now location scouting, assembling the crew and casting begins. Production for TDAT set to begin in the fall.
• 5/6/2002 – 5/26/2002 Jake disappears from public view for 20 days.
In typical publicist fashion when it comes to Narnia's couples, special events, moments or anniversary dates are all prime targets to be replicated and tainted by beards or meards. And in this case? The planets are aligning and narrowing down the heart-eyes 😍 meeting between Jake and Austin at The Day After Tomorrow auditions more and more....to May 7.
