Monday's Child Is Brisk in Tweed: Jake and The Pea Coat

Yup, that was Guess-Who, allegedly on Monday, Sept 23?  And since it was an off day, as has been every Monday in the month of September for Mr. Jakers, well, that means he was able to round up the troops and have everyone in that ever-expanding Gyllynicholsgaard compound help to search.

What is a pea coat, you ask?  Well, a pea coat is an outer garment with distinctive features - cropped length, double-breasted, of wool fabric and with large buttons.  Introduced as military wear for the British Royal Navy in the 18th century, it was worn by petty officers, but eventually showed up in men's civilian wear.   Originally, the six to eight button fastenings were made of brass and since the coats were worn by higher level officers and not the seamen who worked below the decks, this is where the term "top brass" came from.  Nowadays, the large buttons are manufactured from hard plastic or horn.

Aaah yes, there's quite the crew!  Part of the pea coat's definition is that it be made of wool (originally navy) because it was designed to keep the officers and sailors warm.  The large collar could be flipped upward to help protect the neck from blowing wind.  And also because the garment was designed for warmth, the pea coat has a stylish, flattering fit, tapering about the waist and flaring a bit around the hips to allow for movement.  Say, for example a brisk walk in the city.

Which brings us to our Jakers.  And here he was (allegedly) on Monday, September 23, taking a stroll in his *brand new* pea coat.  "Brand new" meaning fans have not seen this little jacket before, so "it must be new!" and the time frame of the photo "must be current!"  So, alright, we'll play along.  *wink*

Not navy, but pea coats don't have to be strictly navy any longer and looks like Jake's is a grey-ish blue tweed?  Here he is, walking and talking, got the small coffee in hand (cutting down on the caffeine??), and the rolled up game plan or script.

While the two gentlemen behind him seem to be wearing a tank top and two-tone tee, Jakers is keeping his style true to the history of the pea coat and he's garbed in layers upon layers for his brisk constitutional - T shirt, long-sleeved denim shirt, the revised NYC uniform mechanic pants (green cargo pants be gone!), and of course -- the gold chain, linking him to CDAN blind item "secret lover", Tom "homewrecker" Sturridge.

And then, in the first photos which were seen on Instagram, there was this small boy in the foreground.  Dark hair...kind of like Austin's...

Is he skipping along in front of Jake? Could that be...might be...dare we ponder....naw, no way...would they...it IS a pap shot, after all...accidents can happen...maybe a Baby Tile??

LOL!  We aren't falling for that...good grief.  That's one of PR's old, out-dated bait and switch moves.  Remember these?

C'mon now...we have a few of the real ones, after all. Facsimiles not needed. ;-)

Shall we point out how the temperature high in New York City on Monday was 73 degrees by almost 9am?  78° by 11?  87° by 3pm? Still 82° by 10pm?

Okay, never mind; we won't go into that. But let's just say I don't think that coffee cup ever had coffee in it; pretty sure it was to catch those drops of perspiration. LOL!

So, in closure, let's look at just one more little thing.  Was the Monday, Sept 23 photo op just because Jake couldn't wait to runway walk his new dandy pea coat?

Was it because he was really on his way to the local pet store to buy a new leash, which was the reason why he didn't have his paper dog Leo with him, hmmmm?  (Think you forgot someone, Jakers!)

After all, Monday is often the "dark" day of the week for Broadway shows, meaning plays do not offer shows on Mondays (nor on Sunday evenings either).   One would think Jake might be kicking back at his pap-free condo's coffee lounge.  Cooking himself lunch?  Working out at his local Spin Cycle?

All we've seen for the past two months are endless stage door pics,  but on this particular Sept 23, we were privy to a rare set of pap photos.  And on Monday, Sept 9, Jake was tweeted about being at the same You Tube Fashion show with Jennifer Lawrence, during NY Fashion Week.  Paired in tweets and this subject line as though he were with Jennifer Lawrence, but there were never any pictures of Jake actually with Lawrence.  Just side by sides.

Hmmm.  Well, WME/Endeavor operates NY Fashion Week, so not surprising, really.  Was he really there or was this one of those 'favors' we know that WME/Endeavor can call on?

Let's look at Jake's play schedule for a moment.  During the month of August, Jake's play Seawall/A Life ran Mondays through Saturdays.  He had Sunday's off and no show until Monday evening.

But in September?  In September, he's had shows on Tuesday evenings through Sunday, with the last show of his work week starting at 3pm.  Mondays were his off day.

Depending on where Austin and the kiddos are stationed at, we at Narnia can definitely believe whether all the Tiles are home-schooled or only some of them are home-schooled, September is a school month.  Being able to spend Monday and part of Tuesday with his kids and enjoy hearing about their schooling would seem to be a don't-miss.  In August, it might not matter at all which day was the "dark" day.  This has been a sacrifice on Jake's part to miss a segment of his children's lives, but he does love theater and his team deems it important that he appear at times to live in the Big Apple.

Just some thoughts.  So that's the story today.  Jake modeling his new wool, tweed pea coat while demonstrating his resistance to the inner city heat and perhaps talking to the hubs Austin on the phone regarding skateboarding in the house.

Skateboarding in the house?  Here's Austin's latest interview:  Actor Austin Nichols' Favorite TV and Movie Couples Of All Time

Nah, he's not doing it in the house, lol.  Just kidding.  Roller blading perhaps, but not skate boarding.  ;-)
