Worlds Colliding in the Entertainment Closet: Nine Years Later

There are times when worlds colliding can be more than "awesome" or in George Costanza's case, too close for comfort.  And, sometimes colliding worlds can be an "Ah-ha" moment, if you're paying close attention.

Many of our posts consist of what might be called structural cross beams.  In other words, because Narnia follows multiple couples and the topics include happenings that are a product of the entertainment industry closet, crossing beams often occur because publicity teams, talent agencies, television networks and movie studios often borrow from the same conceptual playbook.

And these days, Twitter, Instagram and gossip sites are filled with scandals, lawsuits, accusations, alleged physical or sexual assaults (or in Oscar-gate, actual "slaps" that are staged, I mean, occur on stage for maximum impact) that are intended for magazine covers, social media trends and headlines in general.

The more over-the-top (OTT), the more in-your-face, the better.  It seems these management teams think that the loudest and foulest headlines make for a surefire slam-dunk.  As part of the plan, the teams will buy up bundles of social media accounts so they can influence us and tell us what we need to understand.

To illustrate our point, nothing was more OTT than this interview of Jake Gyllenhaal on Inside the Actor's Studio from September 2013, when he was asked what turned him on.

For context, our own Methodical Muser looked up how other actors had responded when asked the same question on the same show:

What turns you on?

Russell Crowe - a well-constructed sentence will give me chills

Sean Penn - quiet

Johnny Depp - breathing [What turns you off?  Not breathing.]

Steven Spielberg - A good story

Al Pacino - Everything

Hugh Laurie - Eye contact

Hugh Jackman - Food

John Cusack - Energy

Mickey O'Rourke - Pretty girls

Ray Fiennes - Shakespeare

Kevin Spacey - Watching my dogs play

Robin Williams - My wife's laugh

And then, there was Jake's infamous answer:

And in this article by Bravo, the network that aired  the show, Inside the Actors Studio, until 2018, Jake's answer was a highlight that they made sure to promote, after addressing his relationship with Heath Ledger and his experience filming Brokeback Mountain:

Gyllenhaal also addresses the gay rumors that came following Brokeback, but he says he wasn't rattled. (That portion of the interview will be featured in the full episode.)  In fact, "It's a huge compliment," he says.  And as for what turns him on, Jake says his tastes are simple: "Tits and ass." - Jake Gyllenhaal: 'It's a Huge Compliment' People Think I'm Gay - Video via Towelroad, September 13, 2013

Flagrant.  Crass. Meant to spotlight  Jake's heterosexual bona fides.  The answer was intended to be outrageous for that purpose.  Fast forward nine years later, and it brings us to a couple of tweets which involve two revered members of the Kansas City Chiefs.  The two NFL players did not post them.  No, as is the frequent custom, the photos appeared on two separate accounts to give the impression that they were unrelated.

First, we have the "girlfriend" of tight end, Travis Kelce, who looks like she was bringing the "T" part of Jake's similar sell:

And then, bringing the "A":

What's even more hilarious is that with Brittany Matthews "Mahomes", she's not only posting her own photo, the "newlywed husband" Patrick has to add the comment, "killed it" along with a fire emoji.  And this twitter account, which very well is looking like it could be an intern account based on previous similar tweets touting the het, has to use his tablet pencil to circle key words like "Husband series" and Patrick's salacious response. You know, just in case anyone missed the point of the post. The only thing missing are arrows and flags, and maybe some blinking neon lights.

In other words, these two men are "getting all that" because they are testosterone driven, straight men. What Narnia sees, however, is that within 15 hours of one another, the women associated with Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce were tied together with a "Tits" and "Ass" connection. That's when it's time to ask, what else do Patrick and Travis have in common? If you know what we mean?

In short, this is why followers of many of Narnia's faves have long become accustomed to the red flag of the "arm candies" baring all in an OTT fashion.  It's in everyone's face for a reason. And hopefully the distraction will divert attention away from what's really going on behind the scenes. 👀
