It all started with a seemingly harmless, honest statement by Austin Nichols on September 27, 2009 in TeenDramaWhore.com:
TDW: What's one thing that is easy about working on a show like OTH [One Tree Hill] and one thing that is difficult?
[Austin] Nichols: Easy: No traffic here. Hard: Living without In-Out-Burger.
At first glance, there is nothing much controversial about admitting a personal meal preference. There are lots of people in California who love this cooked, fresh-to-order treat. Totally understandable that Austin would also miss his favorite fast food hamburger while filming in Wilmington, North Carolina. Simple and direct. Nothing out of the ordinary. Nothing needing to be reconsidered or covered up. That is until three years later on May 11, 2012, late at night, when this happened:

Fast forward to Valentine's Day, 2017 and the below "romantic" photograph appears with strategically placed, easily recognizable In-N-Out drinking cups. I don't know about you, but nothing says romance like buying your "girlfriend" a $6.50 meal on Cupid's special day. Those pink heart-shaped dark glasses were a nice touch too, in case we didn't know what day it was. Good thing these two walk around LA with their own hired pap to capture these kinds of spontaneous occasions. Otherwise, we never would have known this special "private" moment even happened. And, what a loss that would have been for all the world.
On January 18, 2012 Jake and Austin were actually not just
tweeted about, but photographed together. This time enjoying a
Sushi lunch. Back then, x17 Online called the gathering a "Dude
Date" (translation: nothing gay here), and hyperfocused on Adam
Levine's presence. But, Austin Nichols was there too - clear as
day. During this time, WME had planned several photo ops with
Jake cast in the main role so he could dramatically say goodbye to
his most well-known LA friends (my favorite being the sad-face
filled fest with Busy Phillips a few days earlier.

*Sniff* These melodramatic scenes almost bring a tear to your
eyes, don't they?
Well, the subsequent all male bon voyage Sushi lunch a few days
later was all part of that same story line. Jake's people even made
sure to include a video so that viewers could see Austin getting
into Jake's car. The narrative somewhat murky because even
though Jake was leaving Adam Levine behind, he was very much
taking Austin with him. LOLLLL!

much Jake and Austin love their Sushi.

past and present have made a point of re-writing his and Austin's
Google searches when it comes to special Jaustin sightings or
events from the past.
• Lakers' photos? Redone with Jake/Reese Witherspoon and then Austin/Sophia Bush
• The Post Ranch Inn treehouse suspicion (romantic getaway for
Jake and Austin)? Remanufactured starring Jake and ol' Tay Swift
• Jake and Austin sushi lunch 2012? Replayed with Austin and his
beard, Chlo Bennet 2017.
• Jake and Austin tweet of being seen at In 'n Out? Re-Google
searched starring Austin and again the beard, Bennet.
So now when you Google Search the phrase, Austin Nichols sushi
lunch, you see what has become the Austin and Chloe blog, aka
Waiting for Toothy 2, dominating the top row, no doubt featuring
the 2017 sushi lunch in their current post. One doesn't
even need to watch the video; it's simple and clear to see the
sought-after goal.
