Thursday Throwback August 23, 2015: Sunday DateNight in Koreatown for Jake and Austin

"He is in a restaurant and Jake is there with a guy with curly hair."

" X  just confirmed it is Austin!!!!!!"

Three years ago on this date, August 23, 2015, Oh My Godot's "Grand Poobah" Special K emailed M&M and myself at 8:38pm because a good friend of hers was texting from a restaurant in Los Angeles' Koreatown while spotting Jake with Austin.

We don't know what restaurant, have no Instagram or Twitter picture, but this was from a good friend of Special K's who works in the industry, and therefore is discreet, [Hollywood's version of the code of omertà], but this person has no reason whatsoever to fabricate or misrepresent who was there that evening.

Soooo....what restaurant could it have been?  Well, this picture popped up on tumblr two years later in 2017, Jake with an individual at Koreatown's Parks BBQ:

Well, well, well now.....isn't that interesting?  Parks BBQ is known for having celebrities, although noted in a Yelp review for having an unassuming exterior in a strip mall.

The interior:

A quote from Jake during "Nightcrawler" promo (in an interview now removed from the web:

"Yeah, the last two movies I made in L.A. have been a lot at night and the parts of Los Angeles that I didn’t grow up in and didn’t know a lot about. This movie, “End of Watch” it was like southeast L.A., all of southeast L.A., and we spent so much time there. So, I started seeing L.A. in a very different way than I had when I grew up around it. Even though, I grew up right on the edge of Koreatown." - nukethefridge.com

A Sunday night meal date and a rare sighting.  Here's to another someday in the near future.

Bon appetit, fellas!!  ;-)

Two Years Ago on August 23, 2015

How time flies!   Sunday, August 20 was the seven (7) year anniversary of Jake and Austin spending "them" time in Leadville, Colorado during the Leadville Trail 100 Run.  By now, we all know the story of how we had totally missed this was Austin standing beside Jake, but oh, we know now, don't we?

The closer shot:

It was soon after the twosome had become proud parents once again.

And today, August 23, is the two (2) year anniversary of a good friend of Special K's spotting Jake and Austin having dinner on a Sunday night in 2015 right around 8 in the evening, in Koreatown.  And thanks to Facebook heroine Margie, we know that Jake and Austin were to become proud parents once again several months later in December.  #Congras !!!! all the way around.

So August is indeed a special month for us Jaustin fans because it has seemed to be for them.  It has been over a year since Jake and Austin were photo'd together at SXSW on March 12, 2016.

And it probably will be a long, long time before they're seen in public together again.  But this, we know.  These two men have life moments which legally bind them together, unlike many "typical" Hollywood couples.   They've known each other since 2002, went deep into the closet in 2012 post-Berlinale.  But time after time after time after time, we have seen many signs that they're still very much together.

And so today, we tip our glasses to Jake and Austin.  May they continue to work at the relationship that they have and we don't have to have pictures to be happy about their union.

Some day, down the road......they'll probably cause the bottle rockets to go off and stun us all, but for now, we celebrate these two special August days.

"It is Nichols."

One year ago today, August 23, 2015, we had another Jake and Austin sighting.  This time there was no blurry picture involved.  No video to be viewed.  No Vine, Vimeo, Snapchat, Periscope, or Livestream.

We had a good old vintage, in-person sighting by a long-time friend of Oh My Godot's Special K. Seems that her pal just happened to be eating in Koreatown at 10:03pm Central Standard Time, which translates to 8:03pm Pacific Time.  He initially recognized Jake and mentioned that he was eating with a guy who had curly hair.  After some back and forth phone texting, it was confirmed that Jake was dining out with Austin that Sunday evening in Koreatown.

Only three days later past the anniversary of  their Leadville, Colorado trip, the guys had stepped out on a late evening and shared a meal for two, in a neighborhood near where Jake said he grew up.

"So, I started seeing L.A. in a very different way than I had when I grew up around it. Even though, I grew up right on the edge of Koreatown." - Jake G. via Nuke the Fridge (Oct 27 2014)

Makes you feel kinda warm and fuzzy inside.  Just a nice old- fashioned dinner out. No frills or fuss. What do you think?  I like it.  :-)  For all the headaches one can get from the eyerolls at the PR and social media shenanigans with these two, this is what I continue to see signs of - that Jake and Austin still have a tie that binds.  Has to be a love that binds.  Gotta be.  And it's what keeps me rooting for them.  May they never lose each other and the simple date nights like this.
