The Case of Jake and Austin Photo Ops and the Stork - Day 30

Thirty Days of Toothy Tile, Grey Goose and the Baby Tiles

Day 30

As the medieval proverb reminds us, "All good things must come to an end."  And, the thirtieth day of our celebration of Toothy, Grey Goose and BTs is no exception to the simplicity of this inevitable truth. Choosing what material to showcase throughout the month of April was a labor of love, although the task often proved challenging since these two smitten kittens have supplied us with an embarrassment of riches over the last 15 years.

As may be recalled, we started this journey with the most popular Blind Item of all time, the romantic debut of a closeted Hollywood actor introduced by way of a gossipy, but clue-driven news story entitled, "One Adorable Blind Vice" back in March 2005. So it is only fitting that we conclude this journey with probably one of the most clever hot leads Ted Casablanca set forth as part of his Morning Mail, "Dear Ted" letters; those ongoing and revealing hints that Toothy and Goose were not just hubbies, but a real family unit that did not stop with one Baby Tile, but were instead spawning a growing brood behind the scenes.

The most easily identifiable method he used to communicate the controversial concept of multiple babies was by discreetly producing fan letters on three separate occasions that continued to ask if Baby Tile was human. At one point, a perceptive reader even asked why was Ted posting and answering essentially the same humdrum question three times over a two year period. That, of course was the compelling question to ask because Ted Casablanca had a way with words like no other.  Given the man's undeniable prowess with the English language, there is a high probability that his intentional "is baby tile human" repetition had nothing to do with a memory lapse and everything to do with adding another missing piece to the Family Tile puzzle.

Come to think of it, I didn't say kitty, puppy or pony—did I?

Dear Ted:
Is Baby Tile a human baby, or could it be a pet that the Tiles' adopted and share?
—CF

Dear Baby Onboard:
How disappointing would that be! Nope, while T2 loves his four-legged friend, Baby Tile is as human as they come.

(Baby Tile #4 is human and was believed to have been born in the first week of August, 2010)

In addition to the “Baby Tile is human” meme, Ted also had other smirk- producing ways of sledge hammering home the notion of multiple Tile bambinos over the years. One observable pattern was how he used January as the kick off month for these crafty tipoffs. That is, at least, up until little old moi pointed out this clue posting pattern on OMG. Having someone figure out what he was doing to clue people into Jake and Austin's continuing "dirty little secret" of a growing family prompted Ted to change it up the following year, even using a different month to announce the new bundle of joy by specifically publishing his letter on November 28, 2011, the day Maggie Gyllenhaal’s own pregnancy story hit the headlines.

This time the common stork arrival language was coupled with a congratulatory “Welcome Babe” letter as well as an unmistakable "changing diapers" reference. Being that BT1 was already four years old by this point, the diaper reference clearly hinted at a welcomed newborn, not a preschooler.

“WELCOME BABE” Dear Ted Letter - November 28, 2011

Mon., Nov. 28, 2011

Dear Ted:
I'm a newbie to the A.T. and greatly enjoyed reading about Toothy Tile's antics. It seems he's been quite secretive lately, is this due to daddy duty?
—Z

Dear Parental Control:
Welcome, babe. As for Mr. Tile, his papa patrol may have something to do with his flying under the radar lately, but there's more to the picture than just that. He's always been able to manage Vicing and changin' diapers in the past.

Now let's go one step further to the most persuasive evidence of all.  If Ted Casablanca had been the only one who provided clues that lead to the high plausibility of multiple Tiles existing, the secondhand confirmation might not have been nearly as convincing. But, let's consider how much more real this proposition would be if our own papa-producing protagonists, Jake Gyllenhaal and Austin Nichols, also jointly participated in their own version of proud parental announcements? That's right, Jake and Austin themselves let the world know every single time the surrogacy stork arrived. The verification was subtle, but consistent with Ted's own chronology. Public pictures of the happy pappies posted within a six month span of each new baby.  Sometimes the couply photos appeared before the birth. Sometimes afterwards. Nevertheless, regardless of circumstance or contract restrictions, which sometimes caused a beard, bro pals, or some other, never to be seen again miscellaneous female to be included in the pap walk, the pattern was never broken.

Perhaps Ted Casablanca summed it up best on December 29, 2011 with an end of the year post that named Jake Gyllenhaal as one of the 99 reasons we love Hollywood. Because despite the fame, the fancy clothes, and the glamorous lifestyles, "it's the little things in life" that make the difference.  Right, Jake?

Doctor's Orders - Day 4

Thirty Days of Toothy Tile, Grey Goose and the Baby Tiles

Day 4

In today's Hollywood stork world, telltale "baby bumps" seem to make their debut at 5 months, 7 months, or sometimes not until it's about time for the one year check-up (see: Ryan Gosling - nah, just exaggerating a tad, lol.) In October 2007, Jake officially began a public "romantic relationship" with actress Reese Witherspoon, stepping out with a piggyback ride, lots of pointing at who-knows-what touristy sights, and some snuggly strolling.  While everyone was busy oggling, ooh'ing and aah'ing at the marvel of Jake being in a high profile, Grade A relationship, he was simultaneously beginning the slow roll-out of what would become a near-ritual over the next six and a half years - that of frequent doctor and medical building visits.

Following are all of Jake's medical/doctor building visits from 2007 through 2015.  Remember, Jake didn't make his bombastic and official "move" to New York City until 2012, which is why you will notice the publicly documented appearances taper off.  But until that time, he was a California boy and as is the Jake-way, these visits were accompanied with plenty of photos. Also, keep in mind that Baby Tile #1 was born on October 17, 2007.

he was a transplant to NYC.]

Whew!  That's a lot of doctor's office and medical center visits, isn't it?

On the blog Oh My Godot, when an observation was made that the doctor visits seemed to follow a regular pattern, the following reply was made from an "anonymous" voice:

we are family said...
"The doctor visits seem to occur in a regular pattern."

Jake is visiting that same medical building for years, long before BT talk.
source

To which I had replied:

And so out of curiosity, I just paid a visit to IHJ (comprensive online site for all Jake Gyllenhaal pictures throughout his entire career) and went through all of Paparazzi Pictures (for the years of) 2004, 2005, and 2006 and found no medical building visit pictures.
May 29, 2010 at 10:51pm (ET)

And after further review, there were no photo op pictures of Jake visiting any medical or doctor's office/building during 2000 through 2003 either.

So I believe that makes "we are family"s reply boldly inaccurate. LOL!

No, the medical office visits correlate with Ted Casablanca's post about Toothy and Grey Goose's plans for beginning a family.

Turns out T2, so blab our mutual amigos, plans on swirling up his love juice, right alongside his boyfriend's procreating protein, ya know, putting it in some kinda beaker or toaster, or something, and mixing it around with a donor's eggs, then putting the results into yet another donor to carry the resulting embryo.  - Ted Casablanca, March 15, 2007.

Now we can look back and see how real-time Ted was posting this heads-up just prior to the paparazzi'd captures which would appear on an almost regular basis on I Heart Jake.

From 2007 through December 2015, this is what Jake did, while Austin was working regularly on One Tree Hill as the character, Julian Baker.  These visits to medical buildings and offices took place in Los Angeles; they did not carry over into New York City beginning in 2012, when Jake "moved" to the Big Apple. There are only four visits in 2012, three in 2013, and none in 2014. But in 2015?  Notice there was an out-of-the-blue flurry of medical building visits in October and November.

But no visits since that time, most likely because Jake and Austin are taking a breather, I mean finished having children.  One might hope, I mean presume, anyway.

So, why all of the visits in the state of California?  Why not New York City since 2012?

Undoubtedly, the Baby Tiles were born in California due to the state's very friendly surrogacy laws.  As someone termed it, the state of California is the Cadillac of venues to have a surrogacy birth.

•  California allows commercial surrogacy, as well as regularly reinforces contracts with regard to gestational surrogacy. In addition, the state makes it possible for all intended parents - regardless of their marital status and/or their sexual orientation - to establish legal parental rights prior to the actual birth of their child (or children), as well as without the need to go through proceedings for adoptionsource

• The laws in California are very clear as to the requirement for intended parents to establish their parentage before the baby’s birth. With the aid of an attorney, a series of steps must be taken in order to file a copy of the surrogacy agreement in a court of law. Once this has been completed, records of the agreement will be sealed except to the intended parents, the gestational carrier, the attorneys of both parties, and the state’s Department of Social Services.
source

Commercial surrogacy is defined as:  "...the term generally refers to any surrogacy arrangement in which the surrogate mother is compensated for her services beyond reimbursement of medical expenses."  source

For a couple such as Jake and Austin, the plan of having a family will come at a cost.  With both men being celebrities and high wage earners, it's unrealistic to believe a surrogate is going to carry a baby 9 months, hand him/her over and expect nothing more than paid medical bills and a hug of thanks.  And for a couple who fell so hard for one another, one would expect their desire for a family to include elimination of legal risks and the peace of mind that the children to be born will be theirs forever and carrying their names.

The financial, legal and contractual details may have well been the easiest part of starting a family for Jake and Austin.

They're a world my world revolves around
My sacred piece of solid ground
The flesh and bone that gives me strength to stand
They are a fire in my drivin' on
The drive behind my comin' home
The livin', breathin' reason I am
A family man
