When It's an "Eternity" Between Ad Campaign Updates

via GIPHY

When it comes to waiting, we here at Narnia Dispatches have become quite adaptable and accustomed to persevering when it comes to our OTP's:  sticking around for hiatuses to be over, waiting for singles to drop, waiting for video debuts, anticipating movie releases, wagering when bearding contracts will end, biding our time until ad campaigns resume.....

via GIPHY

wait, what?  Ad campaigns to resume?  When was this? Who was this?  Just so we're sure of what we're talking about, let's quickly review what an "ad campaign" is.

campaign:
intransitive verb
If someone campaigns for something, they carry out a planned set of activities over a period of time in order to achieve their aim.

ad campaign:
noun
informal
a series of advertisements, often with additional events and activities, designed to promote a particular product or brand

Perhaps this would be a prime example:

and from the debut commercial, this should ring a bell as well:

"Jake Gyllenhaal is the New Face of  Eternity Calvin Klein" -  ~Vanity Fair
Alongside Liya Kibede and 'four-year old Leila'
October 5, 2017  09:02am

"A new series of ads"
"The trio will also appear in commercials that will debut later this month" [edited since it appears the editing department missed their typo]

Well, October 5 brought us the big debut:

This video was also followed by many subsequent related printed and website articles, ranging from Jake playing a hot dad, to Jake reading poetry, to "introducing-four-year-old-actress-Leila™" and her first reactions to Jake, to Jake being "finally a dad".

That last popular clickbait title no doubt stemming from the September 2017 "campaign" which preceded the debut of the commercial, loudly trumpeting how Jake badly wanted to be a dad , opened up about his desire to be a father, and wanting to settle down and have kids.  Almost sounds like Jake's biological clock was tick, tick, ticking away, doesn't it? And let's not forget the "private" dinner party celebrating the whole campaign, with the likes of CK's chief creative officer Raf Simons, Big Sister Maggie, Kyle MacLachlan, and co-star Liyah Kebede.

A funny thing has happened on the way to the Forum however:  we are still waiting for that next commercial in this "new series of ads".   Instead, what have we been inundated with?  Q &A's and motivational speeches, award shows, more Q & A's, screenings, photo shoots, additional Q & A's, and now bubble-wrap popping videos like this:

So what's going on?  It is Christmas season after all; talk about the best time of year to food truck your merchandise.   October has come and gone, replaced by the month of November....now December has descended upon us and as far as Calvin Klein's Eternity is concerned, well -

and

Is there any sign of the new face of Calvin Klein?

Maybe....things have been delayed in the editing room?  Or could there have been the quietest of whistle blowing after Narnia speculated about a possible plot behind the whole Calvin Klein campaign ? When the campaign debuted on October 5, there was no doubt, this was indeed going to be a "campaign".  As Vanity Fair pointed out above, there was going to be a "series of new ads".  Yet here we are today in December and we're still waiting for commercial number two. And, since Jake's Nine Stories Production Company is THE creative force behind this project, surely he has a bunch of film "in the can" to sweep us away with more Daddy Dearest tales. Right, Jake?

If you want to try and watch the bubble wrap video, go for it. I dare you to make it through the whole thing. I shut the thing off before it was over. What a bunch of nonsense; unfathomable that the sponsors or Jake think fans want to listen to him whispering and popping bubble wrap.

Probably one or more of his kids recently played with bubble wrap and that’s where he got the idea.

And the whispering probably came from teaching the recently-turned-two-year-old about “our inside voice”. LOL!

I didn’t realize that Liam and Niall were touring together as part of the Jingle Ball series. That is so wonderful and I loved Liam’s thoughts on how nice it is to be who he is when he’s with Niall.

He's a method actor, PG!!! And, the greatest actor of his generation. *wink* Which, of course, means that he must be indulged at every turn.

It’s so hard right now to be positive about Jake, so apologies for the negative comment about his video. I’ll try to be more positive on the next post! :-(

It’s just a real trial right now with him and Austin.

But don’t mistake that emotion as throwing in a towel.

Not by far.

LOLLLL!! I just found out what ASMR is - some kind of sensory thing that is a recent fad. Leave it to Jake to be part of a trendy thing.

One that sure didn't work on me, I guess. It was only greatly grating & irritating. LOL!!

autosensory something or other latest trend
