Memorial Day 2018

Dating as far back as 1868, in what began as an honoring of fallen Civil War soldiers at Arlington Cemetary, Decoration Day has continued on and was declared a federal holiday in 1971.  The name has been changed to Memorial Day and is observed on the last Monday of the month of May.

We remember and honor those who sacrificed and gave their lives while serving for their country.

A sobering video to be sure. I remember several years ago, when a fallen soldier was flown in to the airport near where I work and several of us went over to watch the landing and escort. It was so impacting.

I don't want to forget these images, despite what is going on in our country right now.

I just wanted to put up a remembrance, a bit of history and a word of thanks to these incredibly brave men and women. I know I could never be that brave.

Hope everyone is having a nice, relaxing holiday. I visited my dad's grave this past week with my little bouquet and it's been nine years since he's been gone. Cannot believe it. Doesn't seem that long ago at all. I think it's nice that some people really decorate up loved ones' graves - I've seen all kinds of holiday decorations and balloons and whatnot. I hope Dad doesn't mind that we don't do that - it'd be nice. But they take down everything after like 8-10 days or something like that and throw it all away.

I think the O'Neill Brothers put out some beautiful music - I've downloaded several of their tunes. Don't worry, the music will only be up until this evening and I'll change it.

Boy, it's been pretty quiet and yet I think it's quiet because there are things being
hidden. LOL! That's the only way you can describe it when it comes to Jake and Austin. There's no such thing as "quiet". If it is real quiet? It's because they're hiding something.

And hiding they are.

But you know me and M&M. We're always keeping one eye on the kettle and we're up to no good ourselves. And that means you will also be privy at some point. So, be assured that we will be doing some enlightening and speculating in quite the near future.

The specialist who is returned home in the You Tube video at the end of the post was Cody Towse. He was from Utah and an EMT. That was his role in Afghanistan and he was killed while trying to help someone who had been injured. He was only 21 years old.

But I guess he wrote this before he left for Afghanistan:

The week before Cody Towse left for Afghanistan, he waxed a little emotional on his blog.

"I just wrote this so that I could tell people I like them. I never really tell people that I appreciate them. There are a lot of really great people in my life that made it a whole lot better," he wrote. "I just wish I'd told them more often, not that I plan on dying, because I can just totally tell them later, but that's just something that I've been thinking about lately. People need to talk more, let one another know they are worth a damn. So if I send you some long passionate message about how much I love you, that's why."
