The tweet below was among the very first, if not the first tweet with the story this morning:

@97fmRadiocity with the scoop.
Another one of the first tweets with this pretty big news was from a site called "Celebretainment ":
Jake
Gyllenhaal is set to play villain Mysterio in the next 'Spider-Man' movie.
The
37-year-old actor has reportedly won the race to portray the antagonist
opposite Tom Holland who is returning as the webslinger in his second standalone
film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Gyllenhaal
was in competition with Ryan Gosling for the coveted part but the latter star
pulled out of the running due to a scheduling conflict with another project.
A
source told The Sun newspaper: "Producers were keen to sign Ryan but he
was busy filming another project. Jake is a suitable alternative with
experience of playing villainous characters."

Shooting
on the MCU blockbuster is due to begin in London in June.
June, huh? Well, supposedly Jake has been done filming the Untitled Dan Gilroy Project™ for awhile and since completion, has been strolling the Brooklyn Bridge, hanging out at the San Francisco airport, writing at cafe tables while his ice cream sundae melted in NYC, and then "spotted" furniture shopping before returning to LA (via jakebullshittingovereverybody Instagram ) , and collaborating with Cary Fukunaga on the Leonard Bernstein project.
Now, according to a Michelle Williams fan twitter site, Jake is supposed to be tied up with the movie formerly known as Rio, during the early summer:
Letterbox and IMDB are reporting that Michelle's next movie "RIO" will be called Let It Fall Back, slated for 2019, filming should begin between june and july #MichelleWilliams— Michelle WilliamsFan (@mwfanofficial) May 20, 2018
And according to Jake's IMBd, he's in the middle of a real mine field of film options - a veritable cornucopia of selections. Which to do today?
And if it isn't challenging enough trying to fit together the Filming Outlook Calendar for Jakers, trying to figure out which tweet has the real scoop is another opportunity:

Phew. I don't know about anyone else, but just reading a small block of tweets in Jaker's Spiderman timeline has me,
lol. So we'll see which project gets pushed aside to make room for which other project. Perhaps the hubs could share his Big Grid Family Organizer?? ;D
Stay tuned.

There's a whole lot wrong with this story and how it popped up out of nowhere, despite that Tom Holland set-up quote from last year. That likely wasn't a coincidence him saying what he did.
But at the same time, could it be why Austin allegedly "pulled out" of the In the Dark show? But if Jake really was, going to be doing this Spidey movie, he had to have known earlier than just recently. And his team has acted like they don't even know what to do with him. He's in San Fran. He's in Brooklyn. He's strolling on bridges, hanging in furniture stores, headed to L.A.....he's frantically working at a restaurant table, so engrossed that his ice cream sundae supposedly sits there about to melt away.
And one has to remember that this is just how the whole Batman rumor started. That rumor lasted on his twitter timeline for several months, back and forth, back and forth, was he or wasn't he, waiting on Ben....waiting on Jake....Jake finally says no, he's not doing it. A rumor about a role he was never going to take, it was just to busy up his social media timeline.
Is that indeed what his people are doing with this Spiderman story now? If they are doing it again, there are going to be a few fans who will be royally fed up with being misled again.
I'm not buying it yet. Why does a Uganda news site get the first leak? It took about 4 hours before The Hollywood Reporter had a story on it?
It's like something hastily put together.
On the other hand.....Jake and Austin need money coming in. They have an expensive lifestyle and a lot of dividends. And Austin isn't working.
So......we'll see. Only time will tell.
And then there was this article from last June. Once again a movie that never happened, but strategically dropped right before Dunkirk was released to give the appearance that Jake is hip and in demand because he's going to do his own WWII heroic film. Take that Christopher Nolan. *rolls eyes* Like so much of Jake's marketing these days...his whole persona is wrapped up in a big fat lie.
