Sunday Evening Musings: Is It Morf or More Like Morph?

It has been quite a week for us (technologically speaking!) here at Narnia, but we didn't want to let the weekend pass without a few bullet point casual observations or thoughts that we wanted to share during this frigid winter thus far. Not throwing the gauntlet down on anything, keep in mind.

• Another single CW star has gotten himself "hitched".  Is it real or is it Memorex?

Remember, it was October 2017 that he and Phoebe "Tonka Truck" Tonkin had "split up" for a second time, after which Paul was seen in NYC with a "mystery girl".  [Btw, what is it about New York City and Mystery Girls???]

Paul and Tonkin had been "together" for four years.  He has been flying free since that time, that is until this latest development. The first time Paul Wesley and his "bride" were even spotted together was in June of last year, 2018.  Some key red flag words from rag US Weekly.com:

"Surprise! Paul Wesley is secretly married to Ines de Ramon"

"The Vampire Diaries alum, 36, and the health coach sparked marriage rumors"

"It is unclear when the notoriously private couple tied the knot."

"Neither of them have publicly commented on their relationship"

"they have yet to make their red carpet debut"

"but the actor has shared several sweet photos of his love on Instagram"

"Wesley previously dated his Vampire Diaries castmate Phoebe Tonkin on and off from September 2013 to October 2017"

The US Weekly article then proceeds to provide the dates of his alleged first marriage (which was to Torrey DeVitto) and timelines provided in addition to add "filler".

Jaustin followers may also remember Paul and Tonkin from their speed-dial availability for Austin Nichols and his then-beard Chlo Bennet.   What's that saying about birds of a feather......

Regardless, it is perplexing and sad to see this latest development. It isn't clear yet why Wesley and his team felt this was necessary, but to "date" someone for four years, break up, pick back up with someone new for a few months and get "hitched"?  Hinky to say the least.  One of those "wait and see" for further developments, no doubt.

• Remember The Iron Orchard?  The movie which Austin starred in and filmed last spring? He was announced as a cast member in June 2017 and in April 2018, was photo'd on set as character Dent Paxton.  Chumley, aka Hassie "Hassle" Harrison was also conveniently a member of the cast.  In fact, the faux couple was allegedly at the Dallas Film Festival for its premiere, even though they were MIA from the cast attendance photo.  There was also the Salento Film Festival in Italy where Austin and the beard were supposed to appear at a Q & A for The Iron Orchard, but were no-shows.  No explanation ever given by either party or by the festival itself.  #FakeNews all-around, right?

Well, the movie finally has a release date - February 22.  Perhaps our guy Austy might send out some kind of word about his flick?  And since he's not working on any other filming that we know of, perhaps he might find time to squeeze in an appearance at the festival?  We know it's not conveniently in Michigan, but you know...sometimes promo is necessary.  *wink*

•  Speaking of Michigan!  Does anyone realize that this has been the second year anniversary of the whole Patriarch Nichols, bro-in-law Rowdy and big sis II Ashley Michigan Instagram debacle?   Aaah yes, good times!  Something about Michigan and February and Jake in New York City gave us here at Narnia cause to reminisce and wonder aloud.....you know how it is.  *wink*

We'd just like to remind Jakers if he has any sudden urges for tacos or coffee, that he might want to work a wee bit more efficiently at his undercover tactics and cover.  Watch out, here he comes!

• lol.  Hey, anything for the hubs!

And speaking of Jake....has anyone else noticed how Jake seems to have perhaps modeled two of his movie characters after playwright Nick Payne?  Is this just our imagination?

And then there's that whole rumpled look as Adam Bell in Enemy.

Jake has worked (ie. "collaborated") with Nick Payne now three times since 2012, and in their current project which opens this coming Thursday, Feb 14 (i.e. Valentine's Day - yes, Jake did that), a duo-play set called The Sea Wall/A Life.  Nick Payne's play is A Life, the play which stars Jake.  It is the story of a man who has been and is in the midst of, experiencing two life-changing events - death and birth.  Death in the loss of his father and birth as he prepares to be a father for the first time, the parent of a daughter.

In the below linked podcast, Payne describes how the play is about the loss of his father (in 2010) and the birth of his daughter (occurring late 2017?).  Jake and Nick Payne share many parallels. While Jake's parents are both living, his real life partner Austin lost his mother in September 2015.  Jake and Austin had a baby in later 2015 as well - Baby Tile Congras.

In the podcast at 16:40, Nick Payne makes an interesting comment, after being asked what did he think Jake brings to his role in A Life:

"He has this tremendous depth...like the emotional resource - the well of it, or whatever, is huge.  And so I knew that I could write a sort of emotionally deep show that's structurally really complex to ask the almost athletic task of him and he would be able to do it with no problem."

The "well of it is huge".  Oh???  Interesting, Mr. Payne.  "Huge".  So, Mr. Payne felt that he could write about the death of a parent and the birth of a daughter and Jake had a well of an emotional resource to pull from on those two topics.  And could handle it with no problem.

Another aside, in reading several interviews with Nick Payne, it becomes quite apparent that he discusses the topic of death quite a bit.  And....so have Jake's movies been quite obsessed with the topic.  The more one reads about the playwright, it does become visibly apparent that both men have likely become a mutual and viable muse for the other.   Hopefully, there will be more projects and podcasts so that we at Narnia and our readers, can perhaps see what else makes these two collaborators tick!

• Our favorite MLB third baseman Mike Moustakas is still unsigned after becoming a free agent (again).  Former Royals pal Eric Hosmer has been campaigning for his team, the San Diego Padres to sign Moose, but as of this hour, there has been no official signing.   In fact, now we read this:

Say it ain't so, Moose!!  If the Royals can't have Hos and Moose at the corner spots, at least they could perhaps be together in San Diego, right?  One thing is for sure, the two close friends have shared the same California and Florida vicinities this past off season.  Here they are at a benefit softball game at Pepperdine University for #CaliforniaStrong from January 13 of this year.

and a sweet shot of Hos holding the latest little Moose:

Awwww, those two have never looked better, have they?

• Here's a fetching video that I saw on Twitter after the NFL Honors event.  #15, newly crowned AP MVP Patrick Mahomes resting his bare feet, enjoying some cold shrimp.  Enjoy!

AUTHOR'S NOTE, AUG 12, 2019:  Well, it looks like not only is the above tweet taken down, but the entire account is gone as well.  Isn't that interesting....

• Let's end this Sunday musings with a few notable tweets from around the horn.

And finally, we see you and we hear you, Liam.  Loud and clear.  Hoping that all of you will be freed sooner than later.  We love you and support you.

Boy, Paul and ol' Ines really have that newlywed "glow", don't they? LOL!

ha ha, I was just noticing how disconnected they were in that photo. Geesh!

What a crock that story is. I just don't understand why he did it. I know that his pal Ian Somerhalder took the bearding plunge and did the Jared/Jensen thing, by marrying his beard. But why does Paul after having a four-year agreement with Phoebe Tonkin?

Really a head scratcher. And pretty sad. This stuff just needs to stop.

It should also be noted that Jake and Nick Payne's relationship has gone as far back as 2012.

Constellations, a romantic drama about life's infinite possibilities, toys with the cosmological theory of a multiverse in which many different scenarios can simultaneously coexist. Before it transferred to the West End, where it earned the Evening Standard Award and an Olivier Award nomination for Best Play, Gyllenhaal caught its 2012 premiere at London's Royal Court Theatre. He met Payne for breakfast the next morning.

"I fell in love with the show, and I just gushed over his writing," recalls Gyllenhaal, who had been introduced to Payne's work years earlier by MTC artistic director Lynne Meadow.

"I'd seen all of Jake's films," says Payne.

From Breakfast to Broadway: How Jake Gyllenhaal Found His Way Into Nick Payne's Constellations

So Mr. Payne has fully aware of all of Jake's secret personal life.

grrr.

"is" fully aware. I'm too lazy to re-type my comment, lol.

Credit to M&M for noticing how similar Jake's appearance of Morf V. resembled Nick Payne. She said as soon as she saw pictures of him again, noticed the glasses and hairstyle when parted to the left, it hit her immediately. So then I looked at pictures and yeah, there's no denying the coincidental resemblance, I don't think.

Then you notice how Nick Payne has that rumpled professor look and I swear that is also who Jake based his Adam Bell off of. Jake must be awfully influenced by this guy, huh? When you base your characters' physical look off of someone, that's pretty attention grabbing. ;-)

Certainly will merit to watch how many more projects they work on together and what the topics are about. Just like Maggie's future project The Lost Daughter sounds already awfully similar to her real life overseas with Jake/Austin's family. Looking forward to seeing what that one will be about as well. ;-)

Some post Grammy musings, 2019:

Don't tell me that Liam, Louis, Harry, and Niall aren't being punished and marginalized by TPTB (and Sony/Syco specifically). They are being used, of course, to boost others' careers, yet they are completely ignored by the music industry as artists, just like they were with One Direction.

Kacey Musgraves - Opening act in America for Harry Styles Tour - Won Best Album of the Year; Best Country Album of the Year; Best Country Song; Best Country Solo Performance (Performed at the Grammy's)
Maren Morris - Opening act for Flicker Niall Horan Tour Was nominated for Record of the Year; Pop Duo/Group Performance; Country Solo Performance; Country Duo/Group Performance; and Country Song (Performed at the Grammys)
Bebe Rehxa - Who did a hit duo with Louis Tomlinson "Back To You" in 2017- nominated for New Artist; Country Duo/Group Performance
Zedd - Did a collaboration with Liam Payne on the hit song, "Get Low" in 2017-18 - nominated for Best Song; Best Duo; and Best Duo/Group Performance

In addition, Louis is in LA with a record being talked about as going to be released "soon" yet he doesn't attend (at least publicly) any pre or post-Grammy event. Niall is allowed to show up at an Universal Music Group’s post-Grammy party, but look at his media portrayal on the go-to celebrity PR website, Just Jared:

Hailee Steinfeld & Niall Horan Party Post Grammys 2019

That's right no mention of his music. Just a splashy headline to remind everyone that they "dated". The pics used are separate photos of them at the party. No indication that they were together, yet somehow that's the PR Grammy push for Niall.

If you forgot, Niall and Hailee dated for a few months last year before splitting up in December.

For Liam it was even worse. He wasn't even allowed in LA. Instead, attended a BAFTA??? party in London so Sony/Syco could have this headline:

Liam Payne Joins Naomi Campbell, Amy Adams & More at Tiffany & Co's BAFTAs Party!

Once again, no mention of Liam's music or his Brit Award nomination, just a stupid headline about him being there with Naomi Campbell, 23 years his senior. A ridiculous "dating" story that's been circulating now for weeks. Oh, and no pic of them together at the party either. But, by directing him to be there, the tabloids can write stories of them being there together.

And, Harry...well Harry, who is marketed by Sony/Syco as the breakout star of 1D, is not even associated with the Grammy's at all. Even though he's in LA. Instead the opening act of his tour...Kacey Musgraves wins 4 Grammy's and performs with Dolly Parton and gets to sing her "Rainbow" song for all to see. Not a mention of her being the opening act for Harry's very successful 2017-2018 tour. Frankly, I'm surprised another stunt-hatted Harry pic/video didn't show up, with him in Japan mingling with a Shiba.

Oh, and let's not ignore that the eminently forgettable Meghan Trainor (another Azoff client) gets to walk the red carpet and party at pre and post-Grammy parties.

It makes no sense that any of the 1D bandmates should show up at the Grammys. They're in the music biz and have been very successful. But oh no, Liam is seen at a post-BAFTA's party when he hasn't even made a film, instead of the Grammy's. smdh.

But with neither Liam or Niall do the idiot tabloids have the money shot.
