Kris Allen Strumming It Up Overseas for American Armed Forces

Kris Allen is a little difficult to reach right now as he has been overseas for almost a week.  He's playing with the Air Force Central Command Band, that is permanently assigned to help entertain, maintain morale, and promote outreach for the armed forces stationed in the "area of responsibility".  So Kris has been in the Middle East, specifically at Al Udeid Air Base, 379th Air Expeditionary Wing in Qatar.  That happened today.  Previously, Kris performed at the Thirsty Camel for the 380th Air Expeditionary Wing in Dubai and Etihad Towers in United Arab Emirates.

This guy has been busy!!  Isn't it inspiring to see Kris taking his music and goodwill to entertain and help uplift the troops stationed so far from home.  There is something about the way he carries and plays his guitar that is a comforting throwback to bare roots music.  A voice and a guitar (and back up musicians of course, ha ha).  No doubt the men and women serving in the Middle East who were able to hear Kris sing, enjoyed a couple of hours of respite through his music.

Kris will be back on U.S. soil soon as it looks like he's going to be performing at the Suncoast Casino in Las Vegas this coming Saturday, January 14.   This is indeed one busy man.

Kris singing Falling Slowly is one of the most beautiful covers. It was already a beautiful song, but the way he sings it is just so touching and geez, so mournful.

I wish Kris nothing but career longevity and he just strikes me as someone who loves to write and sing and play his guitar. I cannot think of a better way to make a living if I had that capability. I wish I knew how to play the guitar. Used to know piano but dumb ol' me quit her piano lessons because riding the bicycle was much more preferred at the time. LOL. But oh I wish I had kept it up.

Knowing how to play an instrument can come in so handy in your future life - at gatherings, at church, playing at community functions, just for your own self enjoyment. It had been so long since I'd been to a concert when I went to go see Jim Brickman, Kris, Tracey and Anne Cochrane at the Kauffman Center, but it still has impacted me. What a wonderful time. Music is so powerful, the way it touches us and takes us places. It soothes us. It pleases our hearts and ears.

What a wonderful thing Kris is doing by going overseas. I hope he speaks about it somehow, somewhere because I would love to hear what he experienced and what he came away with, how he was affected.

When the AFCENT speaks of outreach, and looking at some of their pictures of other performances, it looks like they also perform for civilians as well in the community. That would be a really great thing. Music is universal - it's a common bond and, like sports, can serve as a communicator despite any language or culture obstacles. There is nothing like music, huh?

I find military terms kind of fascinating. "Area of Responsibility" is one of those. That's a new one, but it sounds protective and less combative than just "territory" or another likewise word, don't you think?

Well, kind of a late night for this one anyway - time to hit the hay. We have a bit of an ice storm headed our way this weekend - going to be one of those penned up kind of weekends.

The WI-FI had BETTER not go out!!!! As long as that stays intact, I think I'll be okay. LOLLLLL, that's sad, isn't it? #factoflife

So nice to hear he's still out there performing. I haven't heard anything about him in a long time. It is a very nice cover of Falling Slowly.
