Broken Hearts Can, Do and Will Mend - We'll Be Right Here Waiting, 1D

It's been over two years (hard to believe) since the One Direction band performed on the X Factor Final, joined by the Rolling Stone's Ronnie Wood.  They sang Where Do Broken Hearts Go and the performance was electric, full of life and enthusiasm.  No doubt, the young men were thrilled to be performing with Ron Wood, particularly Harry Styles who was a co-writer of the song.

Here's a clip of the performance from December 2014.  If one would like to skip the hype at the beginning, the performance begins at 01:08.  Not only that, but I think it must have been played a kamillion times because it's kind of green at the beginning. Although the color is appropriate for the approaching holiday, it can be a bit disconcerting. But don't despair, that part doesn't last long, lol.  This performance is what snapped me out of my stereotypical "boy-band" mindset and catapulted One Direction as a group of multi-talented, outstanding entertainers.

CRANK IT !!

One Direction - Where Do Broken Hearts Go Live @ The 2014 X Factor Final (w. Ronnie Wood) from Vitor on Vimeo.

Just looking at the over-72 Font size, the capping, the high-decibel, Let's Get Ready To Rumble voice of the announcer during the beginning intro, it is now plain to see what a source of income, fame and self-importance One Direction provided for Simon Cowell and Syco.  Subsequently, the "pain" of losing One Direction would be 100 fold, even though the loss comes by their own hands.

While One Directions fans have been hurting from not seeing their favorite group singing together, they have coped quite well.   These are the trying times indeed with babygate stories, airport drama, obvious separations between band members and overall frustration.

Each of these young men have said they will be back and while no one knows when the time will be, they seem to be individuals of their word.

"One Direction is who we are and who we always will be." - Liam Payne (February 2017)

"We will be back." - Niall Horan  (November 2016)

"We fully intend to come back" - Louis Tomlinson (October 2015)

That looks like a unanimous group of voices saying "we'll be back", lol.  Whether Zayn could possibly at some point make an appearance during the return, who could possibly know, but if it were to happen, that would just be icing on the cake.   In the meantime, the young men have shared what they can and support is all that can be provided to them during this mega-length of a hiatus to beat all hiatuses.  ;-)

Here are all five glorious members and participants of the above finale performance and we look forward to that pot of gold at the end of the rainbow when we know that at least the foursome will return to perform again as a group.  What a day indeed that will be.

Mr. Liam Payne

Mr. Louis Tomlinson

Mr. Niall Horan

 Mr. Zayn Malik

Mr. Harry Styles

Thanks guys, for this extraordinary, thrilling performance.

Sooooo many things I love and get off on with this performance. Has got to be one of my most favorite live performances of anyone I've watched. It's just such a charge.

Harry dancing and out of his head back there on stage, Louis enjoying watching Harry enjoy himself, Niall getting off playing his guitar with Ron Wood, Liam oh so seriously singing and enjoying watching the group, Zayn and his beautiful, melodic voice, Liam with his arm around Zayn towards the last chords, all of them on a musical, performing high.

They all did so outstanding, all five of them. God bless Ronnie Wood for his participation and it was truly a rocking collaborative effort.

Great post, PG. These guys started pivoting toward a more introspective, indie, rock sound with their third album and haven't looked back since. This performance really was an outstanding example of not just their singing capabilities, but their dramatic growth as artists and songwriters. You've already pointed out my favorite moments, except the one at the end, when they are going in for that signature group hug. Look how proud Louis pats Harry on the back several times. He knows how much Harry is a Rolling Stones fan and he made sure His fella got to gyrate and rock out next to one of his icons, while Louis looks on with complete fondness and love.

These guys will be back. Bigger and better than ever. No matter how much Syco/Sony tries to destroy them. In an industry with egomaniacs and self satisfied jerks there is One Direction. Talented, hardworkers, resilient, fan motivated, business savvy, and kind. I think they are going to win this time as the music industry tries to use them as an example of what will happen to you if you dare to fight the system. They aren't going anywhere. No matter how many roadblocks and stunt-filled narratives are thrust upon them. They will survive and continue to be enormously successful. There are battles going on behind the scenes, but these guys are warriors. The struggles they are going through right now is going to lead to some amazing music. I, for one, can't wait.

One more thing I love about these guys and you can see it in this video. The complete.joy of performance in all its purity and authenticity. Not bad from a manufactured boyband that was designed to burn out after a few years. Right after a bunch of bottom feeders packed up the money and slinked off into night.
