Jake Gyllenhaal’s Mystery Woman. Or, What Should We Call You, Ms. Caruso? (Part 1 of 3)

For any battle-scarred fan of Jake Gyllenhaal, this face is more than a little familiar after 10 years of popping up in paparazzi pics in one way or another. More often than not, strolling on the streets of Manhattan with her celebrity pal has built Greta Caruso into somewhat of a staple in the Lilliputian inner circle that has come to be known as Jake World.

We don't see him hanging with Busy Phillips any longer. Nor is he seen with Natalie Portman like he once was in the early days. Even Jake's old standby, Sibling Sis has receded into the background lately. No doubt ready to reappear again when the need arises. Still, amid these recognizable photo op "casualities," Ms. Caruso has somehow remained the one exception to this perplexing pattern. Even allegedly resurfacing as recently as July 31 in this carefully crafted, Renoiresque group portrait.

Given this peek-a-boo existence, every phrase in the established Jake lexicon has been used to try to identify exactly who Greta is. We know she appeared from out of nowhere in New York at 22 years of age, a recent Yale graduate and single. Not surprisingly, since then, the label "girlfriend" has been applied at least once or twice. Let's face it, if Jake can be paired romantically with 69 year old Susan Sarandon and 50+ actress Julianne Moore, Greta surely has earned a Get Out of Jail Free card as a qualified "girlfriend." Not exactly a lie either. Ms. Caruso is a girl and she is a friend.

Throughout the years, she also has been described in other similar and predictable ways:

Longtime Pal
Mystery Woman
Mystery Girl
New Chickie Babe
Friend
Childhood Friend
New Female Friend
Longtime Best Friend
David Caruso's Daughter
Platonic Pal (December, 2016 addition)

In light of all these pseudonyms, let's explore what term would be closer to the truth with regard to her true relevancy to Jake Gyllenhaal, and possibly, the extended family.

I clearly believe that the pictures of Jake with Greta Caruso dated Sept 28 on IHJ were to set up first that Greta was Jake's "mystery friend", when in reality at that time, she was going to be Maggie's assistant/nanny for Ramona.

And I think this is why the sets of pictures were separated in the October 19 set, so that there wasn't a distinct correlation with Greta and Maggie. Greta would be used in the future as Jake's cover. Much like Maggie being the one to likely set up Kirsten Dunst with Jake.

Plus, being a nanny for Ramona would give Greta a "trial run" so to speak with the Gyllenhaal family, should she go on to provide nanny-ship duties for Jake and Austin with their soon-to-be sprouting family.

This thought just occurred to me as well as it becomes more and more clear that Maggie sure has a hand in pruning people into Jake's life. So does Naomi, the matriarch.

After all, note what that Anon said in the IHJ thread - that Greta's mother, Rachel Ticotin, was Naomi's friend. I have no doubt that Mother Naomi contributed to the introduction of Greta into Jake's future.

I agree completely with your statement, PG. Back in 2002, Maggie was the cover to "introduce" Kirsten to Jake. Even though you know darn well he knew her already. She was a child actress and dated one of his best friends who was in Donnie Darko with him, Alex Greenwald. Greta's father is a Russian Jew, just like Naomi. Both from New York. The connections never seem to end when it comes to Jake's very small universe.

If you want to see an example of Mgmnt & Jake taunting, look again at the Crazy Quilt Pic-a-nic picture. Complete with a baby girl and some kind of baby sweater or "woobie bankie" on his knee. smdh.

Outright taunting. Jake needs to remember that kharma can be a you know what. That kind of stuff can come around and smack you right back in the face, say like....in the form of posts like this on Narnia Dispatches.

LOL!

Sorry for the scrolling playlist. I must have clicked or not clicked on something in the Wikiplayer that I normally don't. grrr.

Found out on Friday that I'm losing a co-worker to another job outside of the company. You know when you see the person training someone else that something is up. In an agile work environment, I think it's harder to form work friendships. I'm not sure why, it just is. But this person and I had clicked and I loved to give him a hard time and tease. He is a hard worker and a former military person, so he was old school polite and respectful. I'm sure going to miss him but he will go on and do well, destined for fine things in his career.

Don't you hate to lose good co workers? And don't you hate saying goodbye to folks you know you're never going to see again, at least on this earth. I have worked with so many people just in my company and when you look back, it's funny to think of all those faces, all the different personalities and so many friends that were brought into your life. They come and go, and I reckon I should just be grateful that I knew them for just a little while in my life. I could have gone my whole life w/o knowing them and sharing those laughs, those good times. :*)
