Our second week of 30 Days brings us to a most interesting occurrence that happened in June, 2009. As we learned in our last post, Robert Downey, Jr. was seen out and about with Jake sometime in November 2008 while they both were in London. A child's jacket lying mysteriously next to RDJ while the two men were seated at a restaurant booth.  RDJ's wife was there, but no Reese Witherspoon in sight. Just two guys chowing down, with a child's piece of apparel lying nearby.

Fast-forward no more than seven months later to June 22, 2009, and an additional odd sighting takes place with another celebrity literally along for the ride. Once again, the awkward encounter captured on film placed bachelor Jake not just with recognizable adults, but with another unidentified child. This time the occasion included Reese, and the professional colleague was Paul Rudd who was known to be in town filming a movie with Reese, called "How Do You Know".  Although Paul's wife was not with him at the time, she was spotted at the hotel where they were staying so it's quite likely that one of the children in the backseat was a Rudd offspring. But, according to this paparazzo, there was another child in the back seat as well:

I was in Georgetown, a trendy Washington, DC area, and i noticed Jake Gyllenhaal driving his girlfriend Reese Witherspoon around in a mini-van.

The other passengers in the van were two kids, don't know if they were hers, and her co-star Paul Rudd which is currently filming in D.C.

Jake rolled down his window to tell me that it was "uncool" to take his picture at a red light.


What was particularly odd about this encounter was Jake's aggressive manner. Why be so upset about a  harmless pic being taken of him and Reese, who were in the front seat of the vehicle; another opportunity to sell the fauxmance after all. Both of them had just participated in a planned photo op earlier in the day wearing matching outfits. How very couply, and the two of them hardly appeared bashful or private about their very public relationship.

There are lots more of these PDA pics from that day, but let's spare everyone from another embarrassing stroll down memory lane. The main point is that Jake and Reese were contracted not to be camera shy about their relationship. And, what was unusual about someone taking a photo at a red light? That is, of course, unless what Jake was so mad about had to do with who was actually in the backseat. In other words, perhaps the small cargo that he was hauling around on a Monday night was not made for public consumption. Paul Rudd and his wife were in town with their child at the time, but Reese's two children were back in Los Angeles with her ex, Ryan Philippe. That left one child unaccounted for in the backseat of that mini-van. Maybe a youngster who might be just the right size for that Humpty Dumpty jacket seen next to Robert Downey, Jr. in London several months before? [ Refer to Day 9 post ]

This fact might just explain why Jake was so upset that someone was taking a photo at a stop light. All one has to do is look at the photo from that night to see that Jake was not happy. Not happy at all. An odd reaction if he wasn't hiding something from the public. Or, maybe even hiding a little "someone" from prying eyes.
