30 Days and 16 Years: A Pin Up History of Jake Gyllenhaal and Austin Nichols - Day 9

The day started out like any other day. Fairly quiet. Uneventful. Puffy clouds against a blue sky. That is until a runner by the name of Brandon Fuller posted on his sports blog that he saw Jake Gyllenhaal at a pre-race gathering, "up in the rafters with his big beard," attending the annual Leadville 100 aka "The Race Across the Sky". Soon thereafter, a seemingly innocuous photo appeared to provide proof of Fuller's assertion.

August 21, 2010

With the cat out of the bag, soon the "official" detailed story leaked from out of nowhere. Jake was with his brother-in-law, Peter Sarsgaard, and the author of the book, Born to Run, Chris McDougall. So nothing to see here. End of story. Innocent enough.

Very soon, Facebook posts appeared clearly identifying Jake everywhere. Smiling for the camera. Abnormally, accessible. Taking pics with race watchers so they could be posted on social media. In the crowd, by himself, just an interested observer. Someone "saw" him at an aid station looking "cute" and "taller than I expected". Then a coffee place. And, of course the obligatory "outdoor" clothing and equipment shop. Because, well he's outdoors. Might as well camp, right?

Cover story in place. Nothing to see here. Just doing some research for a documentary film. A movie by the way that was never made. Move along, people.

Fast-forward some six weeks later and my eagle-eyed Narnia companion, Ms. Prairie Girl, had simply blown up the original pic of Jake standing around, with Peter and Chris McDougall to look a bit closer at what shoes Jake had been wearing that day.  To her delighted surprise she viewed something that had gone completely unnoticed back in August. Something that provided an explanation for the over the top sightings of the reclusive man himself being seen everywhere that day. Decoy Jake the designated distraction.

Let's look a little closer.

 Closer.

 Almost there.

That's right, Harry.

Well, well, well.   Mr. Austin Nichols. Hiding in plain sight.

And, that's the tea for the day.  Please continue with your daily routine.

Ahh Leadville. Lovely old town. When in Colorado a few years back I checked it out. Old West kind of town still in operation. Incredible mountain area. Don't think I have ever been to a place where the sky was so blue and the air so clean.

Wouldn’t it be funny if you had a Jake and Austin Convention. And if distance wasn’t a factor, you could have a Jaustin Tour part of the “Diamond” package. And it could include stops at the Post Ranch Inn, Leadville, Tortuga Bay Resort, Bangers, the Chinese Restaurant where they were arrested behind the building, Marfa, Koreatown, Basix Cafe, and Coogies Beach Cafe in Malibu. LOL! I crack myself up sometimes.
